You will need to read reviews as the subject usually gets shutdown by the mods for obvious reasons.
I didn't know it was a forbidden subject. I own my iPhone and met T mobile requirements yet they won't unlock it because I bought it at Best buy.

It is not a stolen phone and I am not locked out of the device. I fully own my device and have paid ton in full for their network service.

So I should be able to discuss alternative methods to unlock my device if T mobile refuses to do so.

But if it is against the rules mods can feel free to delete my posts pertaining to alternative unlock methods.

The problem is this website gets a lot of people signing up and asking that question and most of the time they are trying to unlock a phone they didn't buy or own.

I could understand unlocking a screen lock or apple account but I don't understand why a network unlock discussion would not be allowed

Well I have been on here over a year talking about my iPhone 13 Pro Max. So I own it and as the person above me just said a network unlock is a lot different than a phone unlock.

Besides continue to use the locked network or sell the phone what is a person supposed to do when T mobile does not follow their own policy?

Yes I picked up the phone at Best buy but I did an upgrade through T-Mobile. I bought the phone through T-Mobile but paid picked and submitted my trade at Best buy. So technically it is a T mobile phone. Technically it is also not which is why T mobile can deny me. Since I didn't buy it at a t mobile store it is not considered a t mobile phone and according to their website that is the reason they can deny unlock because I don't meet that one requirement.

I am asking for advice because I have a feeling all these companies do is make a request to t mobile to unlock the phone which obviously won't work and I would be wasting my money. If they are able to get the unlock code and it is legitimate then I can keep my iPhone which I have completely paid for.

Apple is great. I will miss my iPhone.

Thinking of picking up the mini 13. Anybody have any thoughts on the mini 13? Would love to here some opinions.

So I had Apple Care on my iPhone. Since I am trading it in for the Pixel 7 Pro I called Apple to get a refund on the balance and they very quickly helped me and I got a decent refund on the months I will not be using. That is great service.

I decided the alternative unlock route was just too sketchy and I just sent my Phone back to Google.

I will lose some functionality and gain others through Pixel only software. The speech to text on this thing is scary good.

I have missed Android and when I got my s22 plus on heavy discount and trade of a promotional S20 FE I was really enjoying it. It is a great phone but I do wish it had a higher res screen and just a bit better battery life. The customization on OneUI5 is really good. I also am not a fan of all the Samsung bloat.

So getting this Pixel has been pretty amazing. It is so fast and smooth. The animations rival Apple. Of course having an Always On Display is nice to have again.

Honestly the way this phone works and is set up I am pretty happy. Obviously the iPhone 13 Pro Max will be severely missed as it will be one of my all time favorite phones. It really is one of the best iPhone ever.

So I am toying with the idea of a iPhone 13 mini simply because as a backup phone the smaller display is interesting to me. It should be one of the most comfortable one handed phones out there with the aluminum frame and mostly display but I am afraid with iOS 16 killing my 13 Pro Max battery that this phone might not be a good choice.

So I may be on the Android side of things until next year.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Just as a side note folding phones by Samsung were never a part of the discussion here. I like candy bar phones. I may change my mind in a couple years but for now the plastic screen is a non starter for me. I know a lot of people like them and I can see the reasons why. Just at this point in the tech I will not buy one. Rumors suggest Google may launch a foldable next year. So if Google does and the hardware is good I think they would be the ones to tempt me.

The topic in question veered towards alternative unlocking and that usually gets a thread lock. Network unlocking isn't a problem and I do believe the OP that he owns the phone.

Not understanding why you just can’t keep the 13 pro max. If you can’t afford a new phone keep that one. It’s the better phone to keep compared to what you are considering. If not, maybe you need to look at a iPhone se to stay in the iOS ecosystem. Switching to android will be difficult especially if your family has iPhones and you own apple related devices. I switch back and forth almost yearly but I’ve decided to stick it out with iOS from now on. I own a windows surface pro 8 for my home pc and iCloud syncs to it nicely. No text on the computer but that isn’t a big deal for me.

I've found the more I use the 7 Pro the more I love it. With regards to software and actual useful features its just the most well thought out phone out there. Sure the hardware isn't near as top notch as the 14 Pro Max but it's still damn nice. Even after a couple months it's still just my favorite device to use. I find myself not wanting to "esim swap" with my 14 Pro Max at all and I basically just use it every now and then for gaming. It's still really hard to beat for that. The only device that I'd have a hard time choosing between would be the Z Fold 4. I still use both of them together. ZF 4 is currently on my business line and it's just a powerhouse. Put the Pixel features and UI on the ZF 4 and it'd be near perfection for me.

There is NO denying that Apple designs beautiful phones but Google is finally starting to take notice and have incorporated their unique design language. Prior to the Pixel 6, there wasn't enough to make their phones standout from the rest. That all changed with the 6 series and the camera visor. That truly makes the phone look Googley. I don't care for Apple's rear camera bump. Every year it keeps getting bigger and bigger on the Pro models.

The smoothness of the Pixel UI is now up there with the iPhones, especially on the Pro series. But what really sets the Pixel's apart from the competition is Googles, AI software. Apple and Samsung are still lacking. Google has taken AI to the next level on their phones and it's the reason why they can get away with using an inferior camera and still beat Apple's best phones.

Yes you can get it unlocked but it’s just a little bit more of a pain in the butt. Don’t let T-Mobile tell you you can’t. I bought the last three phones at Best Buy and had them all unlock through T-Mobile. It just sometimes takes more than one phone call to get it done and they generally need to escalate it or put in a ticket. Don’t give up keep on them!

It was over a month and almost two weeks of that calling daily. Spending over an hour each call. I have never had such a terrible experience. My mistake was trying to unlock after I switched from post paid to prepaid.

I escalated to several supervisor and nothing ever worked. Technically they don't have to unlock your phone if you didn't buy it from T Mobile directly.

Then contact Apple. One of them has to do it I know it’s a pain in the ass but it can’t be done eventually.

I did twice. Had an apple rep call t mobile with me on the line to no avail.

I also called BestBuy. Their geeksquad mobile activation specialist.

What I am trying to warn people is that it is up to T-Mobile if you buy a phone through a third party if they are willing to unlock your phone. If you are on a post paid account often times they will but if not you can forget it.

OK well that sucks but I would make sure somebody pays for it because that’s BS if you pay your phone off you can’t get it unlocked. I guess I’ve been lucky because I am on postpaid and had the last three unlocked no problem.

As long as you are paying the Magenta or regular plans and you pay for the phone in full and use for a year on their line then they will unlock it. If you switch to prepaid before unlocking you are screwed. That was my big mistake. If I would have known I would have tried to unlock the phone while I still had my post paid account and then made the switch.

My ignorance cost me so I am hoping to help others through my misfortune.

Agree. The 6 and 7 Pro are great looking devices. The flat screen and overall build of the iPhone still make it better to me as far as hardware but the Pixel series is coming on strong.

With ios16 I find the iPhone to be the most glitchy, buggy device I have. Pixel is way smoother and the AI is just icing on the cake.

I agree. Hopefully in future updates iOS will get sorted out. However it was a pretty bad update in terms of stability and battery life.

I have a feeling stage manager support is responsible for the issues. I have no way of knowing this but just a hunch.

The hardware on iPhone is pretty hard to match.

That being said Pixel phones finally feel like premium devices. They still have a ways to go but they are moving in the right direction.

Also so far Pixel software has been great. Let's hope Google can keep stability on task.

Apple has that down to a science including their marketing. When you can introduce eye catching new colors mid-cycle that has people upgrading within the same yearly cycle, that shows Apple knows what it's doing.

Unfortunately, that loses its appeal just like waiting in line to buy an iPhone because the tech is too mature and we've reach saturation and diminishing returns. We've seen that in other Apple product lines such as the iPod and iPad. There is only so much you can do. However Apple has a way of making phones that grab peoples attention. So big credit to them.

However I am not in that group as much as I admire what they do. I prefer Google's approach which is AI and software. Apple lags behind on that front, so does Samsung.

Fully agree. iPhones especially have zero reason to upgrade annually. I have a 13 Pro Max and looking at the 14, there’s literally zero reason to upgrade especially since Apple trade in offers are so bad.

Samsung is the only brand where annual upgrades sometimes make sense. They typically give well above market value and include add on gifts so I can see why people upgrade every year with them.

I would think that stage manager doesn’t exist anywhere on iOS since they don’t have the capability to use that feature, just iPads and Macs.

There is nothing Pixel 7 Pro has over iPhone 13 Pro Max. Maybe better camera under certain conditions but that is all it.

Android 13 on Pixel is still a buggy mess compared to iOS on 13 Pro Max.

I would ask you to save up for next year's iPhone 14 Pro or Ultra (Whatever Apple calls it to artificially jack up the price)

Well it is all a matter of opinion. The 13 Pro Max is no doubt a great phone and will be for a long time.

However your second point is completely wrong. iOS 16 is a buggy mess and has reduced the battery life on my 13 Pro Max considerably. The implementation of widgets is not very good.

Pixel software is rock solid which is surprisingly refreshing after the 6. Fingerprint sensor works, cameras are great, screen is great, battery life is great, and it is nice to have Always On Display which didn't get to the 13 Pro Max despite having a perfectly good screen to do so.

I may get an iPhone 13 mini but we will see what the 15 offers, if esim support is better in a year, and what the Pixel 8 Pro looks like.

Both phones are really nice but general statements about Android compared to iOS are old and stale. Can iPhone screen a call? How is speech to text? How does Siri integrate into the phone so you can do things hands free? How about clear calling and more.

Android animations are cool and super smooth like when you press the power button to turn off the screen it fades into the power button.

Like I said I like iOS and Android but let's not say one is better than the other. They are different and both can be great.

1) People who are partial to Apple say, Android is a buggy mess.

2) People who are partial to Google say iOS is a buggy mess.

3) People who have tried and use both say they both have their pros and cons and neither is perfect.

I’ll simplify it a step further. It’s super simple to judge how stable an OS version will be.

Did they make a lot of visual changes and add a lot of features? Then it’s going to be a buggy mess until the next version.

Are the changes minor and mostly stability bug fixes? Then the version will be pretty stable.

Android 13 is pretty bug free and stable because Android 12 was a huge overhaul and full of bugs.

IOS 16 is pretty bug free and stable because Apple rarely make big changes to their OS.
