iPhone X Not enjoying my iPhone X

I'm of the opinion that iPhone X is absolutely perfect. It is not abnormal for someone who buys iPhone X to want to try and maintain its perfection.

I don’t think anyone disputes that. The discussion is taking it to the length of not enjoying it due of fear of accidentally creating an imperfection.

As I've noted previously elsewhere, I dropped $3,500 on a Les Paul guitar. I've played it only once afterward I noticed a scratch on the plate. Devastated. I keep it in the guitar case. Very rarely I will put on surgical gloves and remove the guitar from the case and play in a very dark room, picking the strings very softly, and never ever playing for an extended amount of time. The guitar still looks brand new. Compared with the Edge's Les Paul:

Not only dings and scratches from his belt buckle but the beautiful alpine white is now a creamy yellow. Disgusting.

I also own a Rolex Submariner. Dropped $7,500 for that beaut. I keep it in the original box which sits on my desk. I cannot understand how people wear their Rolex watches with scratches. I've considered using nail polish to coat the stainless steel watch or using some sort of clear tape. Maybe even glue. I must need protection on these prized material effects. Until then, they will sit in their respective boxes untouched.

You’re probably joking I know but so many people obsess about keeping instruments in super good condition.

Guitars are want to have dents and scratches to show character. My Les Paul has a few and so does my Telecaster. I think it makes them look cool. My iPhones are never pristine either but I don’t abuse them.

In fact, some items tend to promote equating wear with proficiency on the part of the user. A well-worn 1911- as opposed to a pristine one- tells those in the know something about the owner.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Why buy them at all if you are not going to utilize them? This to me is a waste of money. Both items are built to last especially the sub. That thing is built like a tank. Didn't you pay any attention when they were going over the service package? If you get a few scratches on it they'll polish it for you. It will look brand new. Now get off the computer, play the crap out of your les paul and every morning put on your sub. You are not going to ruin them with normal use.

I think this guy was trying to be /s, but if you have to ask, it's not too effective. Also, in some posts, he refers to his $5K Les Paul. Make up your mind.

i bought, almost 30 years ago, a Tag Heuer watch because of the beauty and the quality. Today that watch has years of wear on it. The crown has lost the ribs on the underside just riding on my wrist. The dial inside has lost most of the glow on the luminous markers. It has scratches and has been through any number of batteries. One thing I don't regret is the day to day enjoyment of wearing a watch I love and appreciate.
I treat my cell phones, currently the SE, the same way. Use what you have and enjoy the money you spent on it.

I feel the same way with my cameras. I don't baby them at all. Beat up, scratches on the body, resale value low but what beautiful pictures I get from them.

Put a case and screen protector on it.

I'm not really living in fear over damaging my phone, but I also took actions to minimize those risks.

I just purchased the X yesterday (Sim-Free, 256GB, Silver). I looked at the Apple Silicone Cases and thought, nah, I'm going careless. Enjoy your X, take care of it, and if it get's a few scratches, so be it, you can always upgrade next year.

Put it back on the box and place the box in a secure location for at least two years. Then, and only then, remove it and use it as usual. By then it will be old, two generations behind, and no one will care.

You’ll feel better about it, too.

Jus kidding. Enjoy your phone. It’s just a phone. Expensive, but a phone none the less. Use it as intended.
