Don't particurally like this with the background onion burst, but following up on yesterdays post where the scrub jay was partially hidden by the branch. While this one is heavily backlit, you get what you can as 90% of the time they are in the heavy thicket of their scrubland habitat. That is also why they are endangered as the nutrient poor scrubland disappears and they haven't adapted to alternate habitats.

The past couple days was of a Scrub Jay. This is their environment and the reason they are endangered. Notice the lack of nutrients in the 'sugar sand' soil and the very dense scrub vegetation which provides food and makes them difficult to photograph. The scrublands are disappearing with housing development the jays haven't adapted to other environments. While photo appears rural, this happens to be a preserve behind a public library.
