I *HATE* auto-stop-start.

I really dislike this tech, as a car and driving enthusiast, I've been dialed into how a car feels and sounds and totally throws me off (regardless of how "transparent" it claims to be).

When we were shopping Grand Cherokees (we didn't wind up buying one) - the V6 option used this tech - so I looked into a device to disable it, found one that installs with a plug-n-play type harness, about $350, easily removed (in case of any warranty concern).

I just learned that my new McLaren has that as well. How the heck does that happen on an exotic sports car?

To stay on topic, here is a pic of some of my cars: Cayman S, GT-R, and 570S:

In a word...hippies. Nice set of cars there. You might like the Giulia QV in "Volcano" Black.

@D.T. I damn near paniced on the test drive when i came to a stop at the lights and the engine shut off. Maybe I'm too old school, but this "feature"(annoyance) can't be good for the starter motor.

Picked up a old but goody E46 m3 last weekend

I used to own a car with that glorious S54 engine. I still miss it. Even though both the cars I’ve owned since are technically faster, nothing feels like the endless power and flat torque curve that BMW dialed in to that inline 6. Great car.

Get into one quick they are surging through the roof. Good investment! I sold mine to go traveling for a year...
I had a chance to buy a late model low mile z3 m coupe with the e46 motor in the really nice silver gray color for next to nothing a few years ago. Kiking myself every day I didn't get it.

Yep the S54 versions are worth 50k+ in good condition in the UK. Super rare here with it only being offered for the last part of the production. Very limited run indeed.

On the other hand the Z4M is a better car in every respect, as much I love the Z3M it does feel antiquated in pretty much all respects in comparison, without some decent modifications.

The Z4M with a few modifications can keep up with the very best too, very underrated car indeed.

The S54 engine is phenomenal but the Z3 chassis isn't really up to the task. The Z4 is a much better driver's car. I miss that engine, but I don't miss the car.

I drive something you guys in the US don't get. Its the BMW M140i (3.0L 6 cylinders with 340HP). It's basically the M240i engine but the body of the 1-series.
I'd snatch one up in a heartbeat if they brought them state-side. Seeing hot hatches all over London made me upset we don't get anything similar.

To be fair there has never been a better time for hot hatches in the USA. You can get golf R, focus rather, or civic type r.

A golf r is pretty high on my list for future purchases

Same here. Golf R is high on my list but I'm not a fan of the brand.

Golf Rs and 140's may be quick but they are boring as sin to look at especially the 140, one of the worst looking hatches on the road IMO. Then there is the interiors, so drab and boring even more so in the golf. The Mini JCWs arent as quick but they have the personality and are nice places to be, much rarer on the road too.

140s and Golf Rs are two a penny in the UK dealers literally give them away.

I have to disagree. Can't speak for a Golf R, but the 140 is not boring at all.
Here in The Netherlands, the M140i is very rare. There are a total of 150 registered in all of The Netherlands as of writing this.

Why? Because cars are expensive here. My car has cost me €68k 8 months ago. And no, that's not PCP or whatever the UK does for all of their cars (especially 140's).

Just not my cup of tea really, each to their own. For 68k you could have almost anything you could think of in the UK, 911s, r8s, astons etc etc

You can have a 140 for £259 a month here if you shop around. They are everywhere loads of people modify them as well, become like the modern day boy racer car in the UK. Main reason I don't like them you get tied to the same brush.
