Well, night mode on iOS 14 is much improved!! I’m getting more image stacks and cleaner images, I still can’t go past 30” though, bummer. I was hoping for at least one minute. Anyway I’m impressed. All cameras got an overhaul. The over sharpening that was there with iOS 13.xx has been removed. Images are softer now (no hard edge) and they look great! All of my sample so far have been taken at night, no daylight shots yet. The fake flowers is not night mode, iso 1000

But Apple didn't report these improvements, did it? Wouldn't it be a placebo effect?

I don’t think so, but I pixel peep a lot and I’m a photographer so I have that trained eye. I inspect the small details that others may not think to look for. Night mode was mentioned to have an improvement and I have noticed shorter exposures with more image stacks to reduce noise and create sharper images. The highest so far I’ve seen is 38 stacked images at 0.8s per image. I’ve also seen 1.07s stacked. These are different values from iOS 13. I used a tripod. I wish that we could get 1 minute exposures. I bet the 12 will.

I get what your saying about the placebo affect, but I have noticed improved smart HDR and less over sharpening on the images. Leaves for example don’t have the tiny white halo around the edges caused by over sharpening anymore from what I’ve seen. Take in mind that iOS 14 has extra camera options / enhancements that the iPhone 12 will have. Some will be available for the 11 pro camera but not all. This is why I think I see the difference in my photos. I take a lot of photos and always zoom in 100% on many to inspect the quality of the image. I wish I had another 11 pro / Max with iOS 13.7 to compare more.

Question. Is there a good tutorial out there on how to take long exposure shots of flowing water using the Moment App? I’m going on a little vacation in 3 weeks and want to get some cool pics.

the best apps for water flow are Nightcap, Slow shutter, & Spectre. You’ll need a small tripod to hold the camera still. I use one that will fit in my pocket (Monfrotto mini tripod & the MeFoto sidekick 360) and Cary the iPhone bracket as well. But if you don’t want to deal with a tripod, the use Live Photo and swipe up after the photo was taken and choose long exposure. You still have to hold very still though.
