The other night I was trying to take a picture of the moon but it comes out smaller than it does in real life. Also I noticed there is a green light that shows up in the picture by the moon.

Then for grins because of how it looked I did one in portrait mode.

I had the same thing happen the other night on my SE as well. I believe it is the moon reflecting off the camera lens creating a minor lens flare.
I figured it was something like that but most of the picture still comes out so I’ll still keep taking them. All of the pictures I’ve been posting are unedited.

Now here’s an interesting effect that happened to the sky. The only change was the porch light came on otherwise these were taken at the same time.

Ok, so I've only had my new iPhone SE for a day so have only taken a handful of photos but already there is a noticeable difference - a noticeable improvement - from my old, 1st generation, iPhone SE. Here are just a couple of snaps.

One thing I've noticed is with my 1st generation SE my photos always came out as JPG but with my new SE they are in HEIC format. I was unable to upload the HEIC ones on this forum, so converted them to JPG first. Does MacRumors not allow HEIC or do I need to alter a setting so my photos come out as JPG's from now on? Bit of a novice with regards to this!

I need help with this too. When I used airdrop from my phone to my MacBook it is in HEIC but if I email to myself it’s in JPG. Will it always be HEIC if I airdrop?

I’d Airdropped mine to my Mac and was uploading them from there. The HEIC ones were faded out and I couldn’t select them so I transferred them to JPG and they uploaded fine. Strange.

Oh the wonders of optical image stabilization! I was just today in a hilly, coastal city, and I filmed out the front window as we drove down a hill towards the water. The roads were not great, lots of bumps and potholes. But the video is absolutely smooth! Actually not ALL of it was smooth: the camera stabilized the image (the approaching waterline) but you could see marks on the windshield (bug splatters, tiny at the top) shaking with the potholes. But the actual image? Perfect. I expected more smoothness from th OIS, but I didn’t expect THIS.

On the subject of the format of photos again, I have decided to change the CAMERA CAPTURE setting from High Efficiency to Most Compatible. I understand that HEIC are usually smaller files, however, storage is not a problem for me and I have already run into problems with the HEIC format. For a start, I am unable to upload them to MacRumors if attempting to do so from my Mac but I also use Lightroom 6 (standalone version) which does not support HEIC either. Seems to me like the HEIC format is more hassle than it is worth right now.

I’ve been fine with the cameras since the 6S for general picture taking. The new SE takes great photos for my usage.

I've posted before (I can't remember if it was on this thread, actually) about how I've got my DSLR right here to shoot photos of the birds that come to my feeders. I'm not posting this to diss the SE's camera, just to show how far it has to go to replace my DSLR. I would be curious how the 11 Pro would do in comparison.

So the orioles arrived today, and the comparison shots I've posted here are of them. Very punchy colors, the oriole (and a beautiful voice, and easy to attract...my favorite bird!). The two shots with the sky in the background are one from the SE (digitally zoomed), one from my DSLR (Canon t2i, kit zoom lens). Not an easy shot with the light background and the (partially) dark bird. I've included a second shot from the SE: this one I was able to creep a little closer, and from a different angle with a less contrast-y background. None of the photos has been cropped or otherwise edited. All were shot through a sliding glass door. The two comparison ones were shot from the same location, same angle.

I would say that the SE photo isn't good enough to put on my photo feed. BUT it IS good enough to send to a friend ("The orioles have arrived!") without embarrassment.

EDIT: Of course the video camera on the SE is awesome! My DSLR does take video but not very well, doesn't have OIS, just a pain in the butt. I evidently can't just upload a video file, so you'll have to take my word for it: even though the still photos did leave something to be desired compared to my Canon, the video is superb.

I think without the digital zoom the SE would have produced a nicer photo for you, but I understand that's not really possible with wildlife lol. Nice shots!

Thanks! Yeah, the zoom kills it. I'd really like to see what an 11 Pro would do. I'm not otherwise interested in having an 11 Pro, but I'm curious.
