Hello guys,

do you think an iPhone 8 is a good idea to get when you don't wanna break the bank?

Tell me what you think.

Peace.
Absolutely NOT, especially considering that in a few months Apple could release a cheaper iphone resembling (and maybe using some parts of) the iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 has a small battery and only 2 Gb of RAM. It is not future proof, even if it is fast and reliable.
iPhone 8 Plus is better.

8? No, as there's an imminent '9' coming which should be an 8 less 3D touch but plus the A13 and 3GB RAM, maybe better camera and slightly better battery life. 8+ is a slightly different case as it's not going to be replaced (next year at least) and already has 3GB RAM over the smaller model so is marginally more performant.

There's 9 coming? But they're on 11 so why go back to a 9 in 2020? Or is that just a rumoured name for the new SE?

Home Button
No notch
No face ID
No flickering display
Superior ultra low light viewing even with all the light bleed cuz NO PWM at any brightness level.

Some people think the 2020 iPhones are the best. I definitely don't

Lol that light bleeding ... one reason why I went back to Android after my iPhone 7. Went back to iOS with the iPhone X

Nah, if you can, wait for the spring when a rumoured SE2 is expected. Will most likely have a very similar build to the current 8, but with more modern internals. ?

I think it absolutely is, the average person doesn't need a $1000 phone. It's pointless.

Statistically only 10% of Americans buy phones over $999

If you’re paying MSRP you’re doing it wrong anyways. After all is said and done my 11 pro is $850( installment plan). I leased the X for $20 a month for 18 months and after adding the buyout it’s $657 for the X not $1,000.

Sadly, not all carriers offer deals like yours. If one needs a specific carrier, it's either get an installment plan via that carrier or get an unlocked phone full price and be free to use whichever MVNO offers the best plan for one's usage and uses that carrier's network.

Wait for the SE2 / iPhone 9 / whatever it will be named in a few months... will be the same price or less, and much better specification.
Let's see if the rumors are right. Somehow I can't really imagine Apple selling iPhones for 400 bucks. It somehow seems very unrealistic to me because we're so used to Apple's "premium" prices.

They're selling the iPhone 8 now for $449. An extra $50 off isn't much of a stretch considering they've done it before. This replaces the low end, not the high end.

They all do... it’s a Best Buy sale and they have AT&T and Verizon on sale as well.

Noone needs a £1,000 phone or an £800 phone or a £600 phone. It's all about preference and what people can afford.

Usually only for new lines or add a line, not upgrades. Either that or with trade-in.

Best Buy as I said had them on sale ... mines was on upgrade .

I was referring to the $657 total for the iPhone X (presumably bought when it was still top of the line) rather than $100 off deals.

I got the X in May 2018... so it was on its way out by then. As I said if you’re smart about it you don’t necessarily pay MSRP. You flat out said there isn’t any deals on upgrades and I proved you wrong. $100-$150 isn’t a lot compared to the new deals but it’s something.

So after a week or so with my second 11 Pro "test drive" in the last month it's going back, and I'm going back to my perfect-form-factor 8. I just don't like the 11P size (too big) & especially weight (should be alu). That plus I'm less than blown away by the cams (I have a Pixel 3) and beyond the cams it offers very little in terms of innovation, just another cash-grab model. Hoping big for the 12, at least a smaller version with similar footprint to the 8 but bigger screen, FaceID, maybe a couple of good cams, and --- dare to hope -- entry level RAM of at least 128gb. The Note 10 is under $1000 CAD and comes with 256 FFS!

Size ? It’s literally about the same size as the iPhone 8. Weight sure but size ? That makes no sense because you’re arguing over a few millimeters at best. The 11 pro IS in the same foot print as the 8 so you can’t get any bigger.

BTW no phone has 128GB of RAM. You mean storage.

I was going to wait for the SE2, but I passed my 7 to the family, so I got an 8 Plus which is great. A better choice would be to wait for the SE2. One of the reason for choosing the Plus model because it have a trade in value of $300 (as of typing), more than the regular model.

Personally, the 8 is the oldest Apple phone I would buy currently because it still have several years of supports left and being a year newer with more efficient chipset I think the battery life is better than the 7.

There's Apple refurb iPhone 8 that pops up on their website once a while. The 64gb version was below $400 the last time it appeared, but they sold out quick: https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/iphone

Again, I was referring to the $657 iPhone X. Didn't even notice the comment regarding the 11 Pro (which isn't a phone I'd consider buying unless it was $300+ off).

The discount's model specific, anyway. I've been looking for a good deal on a brand new iPhone 8 but sadly, all the deals for those require either new line or trade-in (that or prepaid-locked) and they're practically impossible to find in stock at Apple certified refurbs.
