Probably false rumor like the gimmicky 3D touch that didn't happen. Considering the backlash that iPhone 7 got I doubt Samsung would go down that hole until a viable replacement that doesn't look silly like cigarette butts in your ears.
3d touch isn't gimmicky - and it's not required to buy the Airpods.

Wireless is the way forward; as long as one purchases some decent bluetooth earphones like the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H5. £200 well spent.
My S7 Edge does Bluetooth Earphones great :D and thats without losing the 3.5mm jack!

Both my old Nokia N80 and Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber Shot phone had BT Headphone support and No 3.5mm jack, seems Apple like going backwards. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, literally remind me of the early 2000s, having to carry a damn dongle everywhere.

I thought we were meant to move forward.

You're contradicting yourself. The iPhone 7 has BT support just like those older phones, except also a lot of features they didn't have. The hyperbole in this forum...

Well I'd hope the iPhone had more features, the N80 is over a decade old now, I'd totally expect it to! BUT the iPhone 7 brings back inconveniences that I had in my N80 without the 3.5mm jack. In actual fact, with the N80 at the very least, I could still charge the damn thing while my headphones were plugged in as its charge port was separate, no extra accessory required.

AGAIN, thought we were meant to be moving forward.

Ok I see, but the battery lasts for a week no need to charge and listen. /s

A week? No with my usage, all my phones require a daily charge.

Its not just charging though, I want to listen to music while my phone is plugged in to the laptop at work while I'm syncing my documents and/or Movies and other media.

We can argue this until our faces are blue, but, IMO, the ONLY beneficiary in the 3.5mm jack being removed is Apple with their MFi Programme, other than that, they could've just suggested to use the Lightning Port for "better music quality", without forcing people to use it.

Anything that requires more effort, adds unneeded complexity, drains more battery and costs more to replace when broken is definition of a gimmick. Google Pixel demonstrated the same functionality simply and effortlessly with long touch.

Here's another gimmick that's even worse.

I don't think the screens are as nice since 3D Touch was introduced. I get more eye strain/fatigue and on top of that the screen content seems further away, kinda recessed when previously text looked liked it was printed on the glass. I prefer long-press.

Yep, my KU990 had a proprietary headphone connecter, it was annoying as flip.
I can't believe companies want to revisit these stupid times...kind of..I can see the potential extra sales is a factor.

Indeed! Truly annoying.

I remember Nokia made a swift move to the audio jack with the N95 as they were pushing Multimedia On The Go with their Nseries, therefore it made sense to go with the 3.5mm jack.

And when Sony Ericsson FINALLY moved to it with the W995, it was a big deal.

CNet had even made an article asking why SE's phones didn't have audio jack
https://www.cnet.com/news/when-are-walkman-phones-going-to-have-built-in-3-5mm-jacks/
Hilarious, they even praise the iPhone for having it, little did they know what would happen 9years later, lol.
Oh dear:

I doubt it . This is just a rumour circulated by Apple "you know who" because they feel Sammy copies Apple on every turn except now the tables have turned and it's th exact opposite

So a no-name, no-value blogger makes an "it could disappear on Samsung, too" ... and it generates 4 pages of comments from the Apple nation telling us "told you so" ... sheesh.

Called it.
Of course there is nothing in that article that says Samsung will remove the jack. What it actually says is that the latest iteration of USB C will allow them to do it. They would be silly to remove the jack as it gives them another advantage over Apple.

I would bet the farm that they remove the headphone hack from their Galaxy S8 next year. The port will be removed from pretty much all flagship devices by the end of next year. Where Apple leads, others all quickly follow.

You mean like with wireless charging, amoled screens, water resistance and stuff like that?

I literally didn't upgrade to the note 7 - waited and than couldn't!
Now the iPhone 7 plus to me isn't worth the upgrade yet I haven't been overly excited considering I use the aux and charger IN my car daily---
iPhone 6s Plus currently and it's good enough till I change lol
Could be a week could be a year i dont feel it yet

Why is it the way forward exactly? Bluetooth is a drain on the phone's battery, there is yet another battery to charge in the earphones themselves, and most importantly sound quality is inferior compared to a wired connection. The only positive is a lack of wires, if that's really such an issue that you would suffer reduced sound quality and battery life for it. Bluetooth earphones are the solution to a problem that practically nobody had.

I have to say I'd prefer to go wireless. I'm so over putting the wire down my shirt and if I could find a good pair of wireless earphones which weren't extortionately priced I'd happily buy them.

Oh boy, there were quite a few people in this section that said Samsung wouldn't get rid of the headphone jack - I said they would. I guess we shall see what happens next year.
