I was bored and then decided to tear down the Mous contour case. and what struck me, this is just a piece of plastic with a very thin piece of leather. The plastic is also pretty thin.
I can't believe this case will really provide that much protection.

Well turned out the mous was just too heavy at 49grams, buttons a bit stiff and a pain to take off, not that grippy too, returned it and got a CarbonThat.
Real Carbon
Buttons are excellent as good as apples leather case.
Grip texture below button so excellent to hold.
Is actually a touch smaller than apples leather case too.
30 grams.

I was trying to find a similar one but only one that offered protection on all 4 corners as well for when phone was accidentally dropped. This one does not have that anti-shock corner protection on all 4 corners similar to say a UAG case on the corners. A carbon fiber case with such features on all 4 corners would be cool. Have not found one yet.

Cases are a scam IMO.
What do you suggest for drop protection? I’ve been going caseless for a few days now and it’s been nice. I use my Torro leather sleeve for transporting my phone to and from work. But, at home or while in the office I’ll just use the sleeve as a coaster.

Yea I went a week caseless with my 12PM and it felt so good. But laying on the couch the phone slipped and fell onto our wood floors. Luckily no damage but I threw the MagSafe case back on.

I have an XR and no case. Two years now.
Before I had a 4S - for six years or so without a case either.
It fell onto the wood floor recently because the cable of my headphones (QC25) got entangled with my office-chair.

The cable took some speed off the fall and nothing happened.

Cases make the phones even bigger than they are. It's ridiculous.

You just have to be careful and concentrate when you pick it up or handle it.

I did the same with a nomad, similar just thin piece of leather on plastic.

The case makes the phone even more difficult to handle and thus increases the chances of you letting it slip.
You should try a Loopy! I’ve got multiple cases and always go back to my Loopy within hours of trying one of the others. Nothing beats it for comfort holding such a large phone and I’m now too accustomed to being able to pick it up with one finger.

Only downsides are that wireless charging can’t be used, and you need to be creative with using any kind of dock due to the loop sticking out.

It's IMO hideous.

How do you put that into your pocket? I mean pocket, not handbag?

Until you drop your phone they are anyways
I gotta say. The $60 I spent on the Nomad for my mini saved me yesterday from about a 6ft drop off my vehicle and my phone went cartwheeling for about 10 additional feet after. My phone is fine, but the case is a bit scratched up which I think looks pretty cool. I’m sure without a case, I’d be doing a claim with Apple care for either the front or back glass replacement. $60 is well worth it compared to $100’s for a repair. Now I’m even considering discontinuing Apple care.

I've had Apple leather cases in the past and loved them. After buying my iPhone 11 last month, I saw that Apple didn't offer the simple leather case so I bought a Carson & Quinn case from the AT&T Store. The only thing it lacks is the Apple logo but at $30, I'm sure that saved me $20.

I'm currently running Otterbox Defender on my 11 pro max since launch and looking for something sleeker.

Symmetry or Commuter? How's the symmetry's camera cutout? No scratches etc?

I'd get the Symmetry because of better buttons, slimmer and not as flimsy around the buttons. Probably doesn't protect as well but it's much nicer

I got one the Phone Rebel in aramid fibre today and man, this case is actually awesome. I love it. It feels so good and high quality. Plus now I don't have to be annoyed at loose sides anymore lol

Right after I wrote that I noticed the backplate is slightly bent and that there's a gap between the case and my phone...

I've been playing around with the Phone Rebel today and found out why it's bent. I took off the aramid backplate and the thing is bent out of the gate 😠 anyways, rn I'm modding a backplate and trying to decide on the material. A fun project but annoying to have to do so
