This is pure theft !
100% TikTok money belongs to Apple.
TikTok users are Apple customers first and Apple customers second. There is no third.

What is becoming increasingly clear is that governments and the public are running short on Apple's way of doing business.

(Personally, I think this is silly because Apple is one of many who take a 30% cut. Amazon, for one, takes 15% and they don't provide nearly the same benefits that Apple does, not to mention, that selling on Amazon required additional costs to pack and ship items.)

Apple needs to find another way of making money from the App Store. The current model is already outdated by the votes of many politicians. Even in the US, it appears there is an expiration date on the current App Store.

In this case, however, I think the point is mute as Tik Toc will be either US owned or out of the US within a year.

Politicians have already decided due to the election.

Actual probability of a ban is extremely low. The during the Cold War, the Supreme Court already established Americans have the right to unrestricted access to material, regardless of the content. Any judge will see through the "divest or ban" dichotomy and delete the ban option.

Coins are just business as usual for apps.
They might. But they aren’t regulating speech. They’re regulating ownership of companies for foreign adversaries.

China isn’t giving you free speech on the platform right now. They’re pushing specific algorithms to create the narrative they want. One can argue, this avoids Chinese censorship, and is thus protecting the first amendment.

People paying actual money to someone who is already overpaid on that app is a wild concept to me...."influencers" and "influencer culture/social media culture" are the biggest issues in society imo...

Supercell is doing this as well with all their hit games, routing users to store.supercell.com to buy gems rather than using IAP, where you get more for your consumer $.

Can't stand TikTok but Timmy isn't going to treat this like he does any other app. It's China. He's in bed with them.
That's certainly a leap.

They have the biggest population, so they have a huge marketplace. They have the biggest population, so they have a huge workforce.

The majority of Apple products are assembled there. Would you suddenly end production and sales there by defying the goverment?

It's just US, which is a small part of the world.
First thing, US is not really a ”small part“ of the world.
Second, US is one of the largest markets in the world, discarding it will be a huge loss to whichever company Wanting to do business globally Unless their goods/service cannot be provided in US.
It's not going to happen anyway, first amendment, bill of attainder, take your pick on why it's unconstitutional to ban TikTok, but it is.
You forgot that bipartisan support in the congress against China was and still is quite strong, however “unconstitutional“ you think it might be, not to mention “freedom of speech” does not mean “unlimited consequence-free speech”.

Also, China can ban any and all websites/service hosted in USA however they like. Why US cannot do the same thing with all websites/services hosted in China however WE like?

All of which existed long before them. You perpetuate it. We all do.

Zero sense of proportion.
