Our iMac came today. It's amazing, especially compared to the MacBook Pro 13" we were using.

I do have a regret in not getting the trackpad (matching in blue).

This is a bit of a long shot, but if anyone happens to be ordering a blue iMac and doesn't want the trackpad, I'd be willing to pay for the trackpad and shipping if you spec it on your order.

Just PM me. I'm not sure there is really any other way? I tried chatting with and Apple specialist and they only offer the white and black.
Just call AppleCare support and say you need a replacement trackpad for your iMac as if you had one initially when you bought it and it was broken. Lying seems to be easier, but when I called Thursday I basically said I need a replacement and they asked if I had one that was broken and I said no and they started to send me to the sales team (which can only order the black or white one) and I was just like "hey, basically the way I was supposed to word this involved lying and saying that I had one already and it broke and that I need a replacement, but can we just skip that part and get a replacement for me" and she was like "ok, so you need to get a replacement because yours is broken" and I was like "yes, my invisible dog jumped up on my desk and ate my numeric keyboard and my trackpad that were both blue" and she just kinda went along with it. Friday my new numeric and trackpad showed up. They cost the same as a normal trackpad or keyboard, there's just an extra $7 shipping cost and apparently it takes a day or two.

I'm trying this as we speak. I went to Apple support for my trackpad. Said I need a new trackpad. He asked "May I know if the issue with the trackpad was caused due to accidental damage or it stopped working suddenly?"

I said "Well technically it's not broken. I don't have one at all."

He said "Thanks for clearing that up" and then just proceeded to ask for my information to ship.

With shipping the total was $143.43. So basically I wasted about $7 for shipping by not originally ordering it with the computer.

Thanks imoxja!

Also, I really wanted to use my Apple Gift Card that I received with my iMac (back to school event), but could not figure out how the heck to use it. It seems like it only wanted me to pay with a credit card.

Pulled the trigger on the M1 iMac after seeing the limited improvements in the M2 chip.

Silver 8/8 core iMac
16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
Standard keyboard & Magic Mouse

Ordered July 20 from edu store
Delivery estimate was August 4-11

Could have gotten same day in-store pickup with 8GB of RAM but wanted more longevity that I assume 16GB will provide

Shipped July 28
Delivered August 3

Seems shipping times are improving.

Only regret is that I wish I would have ordered the trackpad instead of the mouse... was really disappointed by the mouse. Using a Logitech for now which has made using the iMac 100% more enjoyable.

Just received this one. 8/8 model, 16GB RAM, 256GB storage (I won’t be storing many files on this one, that’s what MacBook is for). Really like yellow - specifically the more gold-ish tone of the keyboard, trackpad side, stand and back. If Apple would have made the front chin gold and just called the color gold, it would be among the best colorways apple ever made. It is still nice

I have the same except its 1 TB SSD, you can use a Logitech G502 or G502 SE Hero very nicely with a Corsair MM200 pad (got that at BB). Works with G Hub software OK with latest Ventura beta. Enjoy the new iMac when you get it.

iMac 24 M1 8/8/256GB - Blue. I am loving it! I use it for work where I can as well.

Overall, it is an amazing machine. Hard to believe the entire logic board in the chin  I also think it is so neat to have the Ethernet built into the power adapter.

Coming from the 27", the 24" screen is totally fine for my use cases. One little thing I have noticed is that the viewing angle isn't as good as the 5K 27" panel, however it is a non-issue for me.

The iMac is so quiet, I don't even know if the fans are working :p

Yes, "Customer Expectations with respect to Choice of Colour" is an interesting topic. I conjecture Silver buyers know what they're getting, performance wise, and want something that's easier to sell later-on: they're the most satisfied bunch, overall, among the popular colours.

Poor ratings were generally, ie. not limited to blue iMacs, caused by third party resellers; some customers though, just had unreasonable expectations:
Just keeping everyone updated:

I’m in. After much (actually, that should be too much) deliberation I stayed with old faithful. 3rd iMac in a row and hugely impressed with getting it up and running. I have it next to an old 27” one and the quality of the new screen blows the socks off that one. It’s also kinda cute how the new 24 sits in pretty much the same footprint as the 21 used to.

I went Blue 16GB/1TB. The colour takes me back to my uni days when we had all those colour G3’s around the place. I couldn’t pick between Orange, Blue & Grey. I think they all look gorgeous on the back, but I’m less sure about the pastel tone on the chin. No complaints though. I liked Orange for a more pronounced change and the Silver probably out of habit. I now somewhat feel if I started again I’d go for Orange. But to be honest that and the bezel being white is literally not noticeable once you’re looking at the machine, so it’s not a dealbreaker. And as much as I like the lighter colours, I would have been very interested in a colour range along the lines of the MacBook Air.

There is an (unintended) bonus of the way the new iMac is designed with these colours. I’m lucky enough to work on a Mac each day. The new iMac is for fun stuff (music production etc) and with more home working it does shift the emphasis of the desk with the pop of colour, so that’s a small thing that’s actually looking like being a big bonus. Just mentally seeing that block of colour reminds me that this is a machine for play, vs the grey of work machines.

Also I went for the first time for a trackpad & mouse. I was sceptical but after years of using a trackpad on a MacBook, I have no idea why I persisted with the mouse so long. Absolutely love it.

Obviously there proof will be in the pudding when I put it through its paces in Ableton and whatnot. And aside from a couple of design choices (I think the black bezel would have lifted these pastel colours out a little more, where white dampens them down) the whole package is once again a great combination. This was the closest I’ve come to moving away from iMac for a home machine, but the all in one form factor won me over again. I was interested in M2 but in the end I felt that waiting “just in case” wasn’t warranted, and the latest rumours seem to confirm that. Excited to get into it.

Does the magic keyboard with numeric keypad match the color of the iMac? or is it only the standard Magic Keyboard? I'm looking at refurbished, but if I need the numeric keypad -- and if it matches the color of the computer, and it's the only way to get it, I'll just buy new.

Yes, it does. I have one that matches mine.

I ended up taking the plunge and bought an M1 iMac Yesterday. Surprisingly the 1TB/16GB model was instore so I could pick it up yesterday. The store guy said the 1TB/16GB models are so popular that stores just stock them as standard. Though the extended keyboard is not standard and would have added 2 weeks to the ship time. So I just used the black Friday bonus gift card to buy a stand alone extended keyboard from the store. I found that rather hilarious that I could get it only separately today, not in the bundle.

I did choose the iMac over the base studio. After a little thinking, in my use case scenario, a good screen, having a webcam/internal mic and speakers are a must for what I do most days. That trumped having 32GB RAM but having to pay extra for the monitor with speakers/webcam/mic.

So far I like it a lot. Took me a number of hours to fiddle with the system settings to get the overall experience to what I wanted and to copy over the files I had on an external drive. I had to search up how to fix the media keys as they did not work with the music app out of the box. A simple fix though. Also it seems rosetta is not installed by default. I got a prompt to download it when I tried to open up an intel app.

Overall I really like it compared to the 2012 HDD I used to have. On this M1 I downloaded the apps I wanted and started installing them. Thinking they would take a couple of minutes each to install, like they have on every other previous Mac I have had. I was so wrong. 2 seconds and installed. Some were so fast to install, that if I blinked I would have missed the installation progress bar. Yeah wow, that was a new experience for me.

Also the boot time is pretty quick. Booting to the log in screen in like 2x fast but the wow moment here was from login screen to usable iMac. Reopens all the windows in seconds. Also quitting apps is super fast. All except music which takes about 3-5 minutes now.

Apart from the slow quitting music app and music now not having full screen music playlists - half the screen is taken up by the album artwork and album title. Waste of screen real estate if you ask me. But yeah no if that is fixable.
Also this is the first Mac I have owned that is not some kind of noisy. Sure the others were pretty good, this thing is practically silent, apart from (when I assume) I will rarely kick the fan in.

I even put the hello into a frame just an old $2 one I had lying around. A few others did this and I thought heck why not. The 2nd image is just a size comparison I wanted to do - with the old 2012. I went from older macs -> 21.5 ->27 -> 24 in terms of screen size. I have to say I prefer the 24 more than the 27.

I am tempted to get an iMac despite the rumored M3 iMac coming towards the end of this year. The M1 8/8 16GB is more than enough for me. There are a couple times where a little more RAM would help but I can't help but think waiting 10+ months and paying more wouldn't serve me well. I did consider waiting until spring for the rumored M2 Mac Mini but I would want to pair that with the Studio Display. The problem with that is the Studio Display by itself is so close to the price of an iMac it's very hard to ignore. Also that combo with peripherals would be over £3000.

The other thing is I currently have access to education discount, there's no guarantee I will still have access when the new iMac comes out.

To keep the cost down I am considering 256. Media is always streamed, photos and documents are all in the cloud. I don't think I have a need for 512GB local storage. £1,484 is very good value for a complete computer with mouse/keyboard and M1 8/8 16/256.

Thoughts?

Edit:
Went for the M1 8/8 16/512. £1664 with education discount.

Even if I wait for the refreshed iMac and they keep the price the same I'd be looking at £1,844 for the 24/512 option. I have a feeling that Apple will bump the price of the iMac at the same time so it will be closer to £2,000 with student discount, even more without.

Hopefully can get a good 3+ years out of it before handing it down to my son will need a computer then.

I'm in a similar situation. I thought that there was a chance for an updated M2 iMac in the spring but current rumors have an M3 at end of year (and speculation is that M3 won't be available even then). I've already been wanting to replace my old iMac for a while now and the wait is starting to wear me down. I may just go for the M1 for now so I can have the current MacOS version and silicon processor.

My main concern is that the rumors are wrong and an M2 iMac actually is released in the next few months. On the other hand I could be waiting for another year for the updated iMac and then there's the risk of a redesign. I really like how the current generation looks.

Please post pics when you get your new iMac!

They won't redesign the current iMac, that I think is for sure. They could drop the M2 into the iMac, but I would have expected them to have done that already if that was the plan. It also sets a precedent of updating every new chip which I'm sure Apple aren't keen on. Every 2 chips makes more sense.

A bump in processor speed won't make any real world difference to many people.

I'd really like to pick up an iMac too. However, adding ram and some storage and spending approx. 2k on a M1 is hard to swallow at this point.

It's more compelling still on the low end. It's a shame as I really wanted the clean setup in my new place / simple / nice aesthetic / fewer cords.

We ordered a blue 16 GB/1 TB this week. My daughter/caretaker took a job working from home as a teaching assistant. I am a quadriplegic, and I basically live off my iPad Pro right now in bed. The iMac will make it easier for me to edit video for my handicap travel blog. I was going to wait for the next iMac, but if I need something more powerful, I can always buy it. My daughter will still use this iMac.

I can see there is a HomePod 1st gen here, does that mean although iMac can deliver good enough sound, HomePod can still outperform it easily? Would you please share your experience? Thank you in advance!

I don't have a HomePod, but the iMac audio doesn't get very loud. It sounds good, but it's not very loud.
