I decided to throw caution into the wind and order the silver. I love the way the aluminum looks on the cups. Same delivery time!
I'm hoping the adapter that used to come with older iPhones and a standard 3.5mm cable will work.

I ordered a gray pair. I wanted the blue, but by the time I was ordering, delivery for them was at 12-14 weeks! Either the blue ones are way more popular than Apple expected, supply constrained, or both.
The frustrating thing is that I can get EPP discount of 10% on all AirPod products as quoted in the Apple Store but it doesn’t apply to the max.

Ended up buying, still a lot of question marks for me. I rarely ever return items but this will be one where if it doesn't absolutely blow my mind I'll be returning.
I don't think the 15th was ever an option for Canada, it showed 16 Dec - 18 Dec right from the get go.
Me too. Just put in for Blue and have a 3/5-3/19 delivery. I’m hoping they resolve supply constraints before then and it will move up. Did not happen w the watch s6 delivery though.
Ordered the Space Grey with a 12/15-17 date. I am done with any more Apple purchases for a while now. lol.
I ordered the Silver one (I like shiny colours) within minutes of it going live. Delivery estimate is Dec 17 but I hope it arrives earlier.

Unfortunately Apple’s Lightning to 3.5mm cable has a TRS jack (and not a TRRS jack) which means you won’t be able to use the mic.
Just spoke with apple support. the lightning port on the Max is for CHARGING only. There is NO wired mode supported with Airpods Max at all. It's BT/wireless only.

I'm curious to see how they can be used for remixing and mastering - these are expensive... and I'd like to see what studio uses I can get from them. Also, low Latency? Please...
I think that support person was mistaken. Apple just started selling a 3.5mm to lightning cable whose description specifically says for connecting AirPods Max to 3.5mm audio sources.
I use my AirPods Pro for editing and mastering... there is a latency but it's not terrible. I've been working with them alright. Although I do final checks on another sound device.
Colour me jealous. Seems there's no student discount on them
I've never bought any "smart audio" gear; Usually go a more traditional route for audio - have a turntable with a classic amp and speakers.
But wireless headphones would be nice for playing guitar - plug my guitar into garageband, headphones to avoid feedback
We pay the same amount of ridiculous as well for an iPhone that doesn't have a headphone jack!
