Is an "Enhanced" license the same as the federal compliant ID like in CA they call it Real ID ?

I don't think so. It is gradually dawning on me that what people are calling an "enhanced" license is a combination of a drivers license, a Real ID, and a Passport card. A Passport card can be used to enter the US at land border crossing or seaports-of-entry from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

Correct.

But I just want to confirm - do all "enhanced" drivers licenses not work or is it just NY state ones or something else? Considering this is in big letters on top of the DMV page:
"URGENT: Your regular New York State license or ID card will not allow you to fly starting October 2020. Get a REAL ID or Enhanced Driver License now!" Apple/Goldman Sachs should fix this, sooner than later.

Minnesota/Washington State and New York are the Enhanced Drivers Licenses that I have seen come up as "not working". I haven't seen reports from any other states.

Not all states offer the enhanced version. California only offers Real ID or standard DL. I have the Real ID version and GS accepted it.

Um no.
It is not illegal to specify an ID that has your current address & photo.
A passport only has your name and date & place of birth - it lacks any form of residency requirement which credit card companies need to verify. It also has picture from 10 years ago.
While a passport may be fine for domestic and international travel with the feds (TSA, DHS, CBP, ICE, FBI, and USM), it is not sufficient to prove residency within the USA.

A card company can specify what type of ID to verify.

Just like the state driver's licenses that are now called Real ID.
In my state, we are still delayed and have 3 types of ID revolving around:
  • Real ID
  • Federal Limits Apply
  • Legacy ID
When I applied for the Apple Card, I did not have to provide a scan or photo of my ID - all my info was already pre-populated except for annual income and last 4 SSN.

I currently still have the legacy ID and it is currently treated as a "Real ID" without the domestic plane privileges.
Going to hang onto my "old" license till it expires and forced to get a Real ID.
I dread the Real ID because I have to use my passport plus 2 proof of residency documents in order to apply for a Real ID.
A Photo ID is used to prove identity, not residence, and a passport does prove a person’s identity. A PASSPORT IS AN OFFICIAL IDENTITY DOCUMENT, unlike a visa which is just a travel document but not valid as an official photo ID. For residency they’d have to ask for a proof of address such as a utility bill, which they aren’t asking for at all.

BTW, I have bank accounts and other credit cards in the US (and therefore a credit history and score) and those banks accepted my passport to prove my identity just fine. And they’re big banks just like GS. Therefore what’s making Goldman Sachs reject a passport as proof of identity is definitely NOT the need to verify a residency requirement. If it were, no bank in the US would have ever allowed me to open an account with them, least of all offered me a credit card. They’re just being over restrictive.

Does it show your current address or prove residency? Of course not. So what value does it offer, then?
Its probably the most official ID you can have and its issued by the Department of State. Therefore I think that your argument is false

You're probably going to be like "Who is the department of state"

A passport is government issued ID. The federal government issued it and they accept it for identification. Goldman Sachs doesn’t have to accept it. There is no law that requires a private entity to accept a passport for anything. Period.

Interesting screenshot someone posted on Reddit....so they had their "investigation" completed and account activated after ID issues....curious why that hasn't happened with any of us when we've asked/escalated.

That is very weird. Wonder if they did anything differently. And it says “active”? Are we to assume they were approved?

According to their comments, they were approved. I sent the screenshot to my GS support who said they'd open an "inquiry" as well. Which is weird to me...I guess we'll see what happens. Again, not very hopeful but it's something.

True. At least you’ve found a different path and if it’s successful for you than we know what to do next.

Did you just send it to them through the iMessage chat?

Yes I did.
I wound up giving that a try too, and got transferred to an "Advocacy Specialist." They said it appeared the individual may have applied again, while the investigation was in process, and was approved. They are actively working to improve the verification process, but currently do not have a manual process in place. They did recommend again the importance of making sure what's on your ID/license, matches what you submit to them, as well as the address. This person did say to just give it 24 hours again, to which I responded that it wouldn't take 30 days? They said there has been cases where it could take 30 days but typically it has been available much sooner. So, I guess take that for what it's worth, will be curious if anyone else has any success or not.

I doubt it’s 24 hours

Same BS. VT Enhanced DL. Perfect Credit. Round and round on chat and phone. Wait 24 hours. Kept being told by GS to reapply. Now told, applied too many times, need to wait 30 days. Did get one tech support guy who round about admitted the system can't handle an Enhanced DL. I think they're trying to keep this disaster of a release quiet by not admitting anything and hoping they can fix the bugs before word gets out. Took a lot of searching to even find that others were going through this. PR nightmare if major media knew. 9 to 5 Mac, CNET, etc. need to pick this up and broadcast it loud and clear. Force Apple and Goldman Sachs to make a public statement. Wasted way to much time on being jerked around. Absolutely right that Jobs would not have put up with this...heads would have rolled.
