Green aluminum with black unity sports band - one of my most complimented bands. I usually wear this with a green leather link or a green/blue sport loop.

$50 for a $2 band is classic Apple. And the design is horrid, it looks like some terrible version of failed camo. The worst part is making a bunch of money off a $2 product in the name of unity. If they really cared about unity, it''d be $9.99.

You’re the one putting words in your own mouth and labelling yourself as someone who rather know people are being oppressed for their identity, skin or race and that you will stand by as they are oppressed or treated differently due to those factors.

In your other post, you said being neutral means being racist. In a scenario where someone is being oppressed and you’re neutral you’re choosing to be blind and morally are wavering on a lot to be “neutral”.

A popular quote from Desmond Tutu “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”

I’ve been picked on and bullied most of my childhood and teenage hood for being associated with a region and religion that’s labelled as an exporter of terrorism. No one ever stood up for me and it was demeaning and demoralizing as someone who came from a different country and culture.

These bands and colours represent Afro culture which you clearly have absolutely no awareness of given how ignorantly you’ve made yourself out to be.

You’re the one making this about politics and identity politics.

Learn to keep your hateful words and thoughts to yourself, otherwise you’ll lose a lot more than arguments on public forums.
I stopped reading after the first lines.. LOL. I’m not that much into debating with people who are in love with their own ‘victim mentality’. Have a wonderful evening, nonetheless, my friend ✌🏼

Yes but a rule of thumb is to never argue online with people who use social media buzz words. You probably know what those words and phrases are. Even a polite disagreement is taken as an offense and before you know it you are being attacked by a horde.
Yeah, that's true!

I got excited when I first read it because I thought it said black Sport Loop. I like dark colors so I was thinking awesome Apple created a new black band. From a looks perspective it’s a big no for me but if that’s your thing then buy it. Everyone’s taste is different.

Where is the "Stand against countries that commit crimes against humanity while making the majority of the worlds tech products'?
It’s nowhere, obviously. But your implication that Apple can’t do anything that might have a moral/ethical component because of their reliance on unethical global supply chains is obviously completely fatuous.

I’d like to see the state of the complaints on this forum if Apple moved all production to Europe and paid living wage to factory workers and then adjusted the cost of its products accordingly.

Wow talk about being privileged to go around telling people they have a “victim mentality”

You and along with others have literally made others who are black state they are disheartened by the statements you’ve made yet you dig in and continue with any empathy or compassion.

And don’t call me a friend buddy.

Should have done a few various designs with various colors.
Agreed ... this is not the best that Apple can do I'm sure. I'm curious if those of colour are involved with the design at all or even anyone from cultural experience.

I really hope that this isn't a form of Cultural Appropriation, which I doubt heavily but one has to wonder. Given this month's celebration of Dr MLK Jr done days ago yet after all the major products being released why is this the last this week to be mentioned?

Last years braided loop was a LOT better along with the wallpapers. I'm glad Apple is trying but this release seems like an end of the week mention.

Here we go again

Yeah I noticed that apple say they are all about diversity but at the same time only put one group of people in promo videos

At Apple, diversity never gets past the bottom of the pyramid. Just Look at the list of apple execs on its website: out of 20 people 18 are whites, with only one person who appears to be middle eastern and an Asian woman in charge of everything related to China. Yet they say they support diversity. Hypocrits.

You also have James Bell who is on the Board of Directors and Andrea Jung who is on the Board of Directors who are not white.

Posts like yours should be looked into as well then? What you basically are saying is that when someone’s opinion doesn’t align with yours then he should be flagged because you don’t agree or like the post? Lol. Nothing is wrong about that persons post. You make it sound like it’s wrong without any merit. I find your post very dividing.

Maturity is about accepting each other differences in opinions. Blatantly accusing people of potentially hiding deeper sentiments is a dangerous game my friend.

I get that this is mostly a USA-centric thing but Apple also pushes this globally, e.g. a big thing in the App Store with black content creators and adverts for 'an amazing calendar app by an African American developer!' And this is done in App Stores around the world, who have nothing like the kind of racialised history of the USA. Estonians, Indians and Saudis being told they need to amplify the dev skills of African Americans.

... But the African unity band does look cool

Who said that Black History Month is only limited to the US? I mean, Mandela, De Klerk, Sisulu, Tutu, and others would say that this matters to them. and none of them were from the US.

It's always comical to see the stock pile of unsold merchandise like this at various retailers be cleared at a significant discount and eventually be thrown away, at the end of these ironically divisive anyone-but-you months.

Beyond virtue signaling and lip service, if any tech company actually wanted to help and acknowledge the community, instead of employing an army of workers from developing countries, they'd be investing in jobs and training locally.
Apple keeps money on side for such virtue signaling activities.

Ordered! I think it looks better than the braided solo loop. Great combo with the green aluminum watch. I think it will also look good with a titanium, starlight or gold watch. I have an old SS gold watch I am looking to trade in for a different look (I also have a few automatic watches I wear)

This will match Product Red as well. More than that, it will match and compliment the Aboriginal flag for Australia:

That’s pure Trumpist nationalism. In terms of money, it makes no difference, as by law anyone working legally in the US from other countries must be paid the same wage as a locally hired worker. If they are hiring foreign workers it’s because they have skills not easily found in americans, starting with the knowledge of more than one language.

From Apple's announcement:

Inspired by the creative process of mosaic, the new Black Unity watch band and matching watch face symbolize the vibrancy of Black communities and the power of unity. Designed by Black creatives and allies at Apple, this band honors Black history for anyone committed to ending systemic racism and building a more equitable world.

Many companies and organizations are starting Black History Month celebrations with the MLK Holiday weekend. It expands Black History longer than the shortest month of the year.

I wish apple would just stop with identity politics
I wish people would get over their own ignorance and just move along if a thread or topic doesn’t align with their preference.

But hey ….

You’re ok with Space Grey products.
iBook in Black,
Black or Stainless Steel Black Apple Watch,
Your bank book in Black,
Your car probably, leather jackets,
Your music (Rock’n’Roll, Blues, Jazz, HipHop, Funck, Disco, Pop, etc) influenced by those of “identity” most clothing trends prior to the 2000’s again by those of “identity” but you’d never state those as being “political” without knowing the history of the roots of most of those mentioned above.

No it only gets “identity politics” when the focus for a brief moment goes against what you like. Hmm shows a lot more than what is posted.

That’s ok you do you and well, Apple will do Apple.

I like a world that includes all those of different backgrounds and walks of life. We don’t get enough originality or personality from large corporations that fake mantras of code of conduct yet never practice it amongst all management levels or in marketing or their products. I’m down with Apple taking a view of various cultures because at the core - the company is made up from all peoples (pretty much) with a vast cultures or histories that help learn about one another our pasts to avoid failures done then to improve a better future.

The Apple Watch through its bands as they’ve stated is THE most personal technology a person can ever own today. And by that slowing a person to personalize it as much as possible wins. The competition can’t even come close let along feature and technology and the vast software available. If you’re an investor in Apple you’d be more than happy with this as this personalization helps grow the product, the brand especially, and the profits.
