So in your alternative world you would prefer Steve meet with a man who said "the foundations of our economy are strong" weeks before L Bros went down, AIG was saved by the Fed, and Morgan Stanley was bought by a bank that wasn't even based in NYC? Ya...
"Alternative world" is a unique point of view. In my world, you are living in the alternate universe.

Basically this meeting between Obama and Jobs is between two socialist elititists who think they are better than everyone else. They believe in stealing from the rich and giving the poor. They believe that the constitution is a "guideline". They believe that the government should be in every aspect of our lives.

That's the reality.

Lol all of my posts got deleted (even one just responding and agreeing to a post still there). I guess this forum hates libertarians :D

Nah . . . at least you're for gay marriage, unrestricted abortions, legalizing drugs, for Muslim proliferation, etc.

I would really love to know what they will actually talk about. . . .

Some people have mentioned moving apple production to the US. I can imagine that would be great for the US economy but how it would ever work while maintaining profit margins is beyond me.

I'm no expert in politics or economics but I am very aware of the limits of my knowledge. Some people on this forum are just weird. . . . . stating opinions based on (obviously) zero knowledge of the subject.

The Obama administration partnered with several businesses to really jump-start the battery business for automobile uses. I wouldn't be surprised if there were discussions about batteries, or some other "trend" that Jobs sees that the government can assist in development.

All of that is irrelevant until healthcare costs decrease. Those costs are absolutely unsustainable and will slowly but steadily reduce the US as a global player. Economically, speaking that is.

You're thinking way too simply and way too short-term.

I'm thinking too short term for advocating policies that produce long term economic gains, create surplusses, and for wanting politicians who are willing to work on the big problems?

The GOP/Tea Party is arguing for less spending without any specific plans or cuts. The GOP/Tea Party will filibuster keeping the tax cuts for every American other than those who make in excess of $250,000 per year, unless they get the tax cuts for the wealthiest 1-2% or so. Beyond that, what have they proposed? Ending abortion even in cases of rape or incest? Repeal of the civil rights act? Keeping DADT? No gay marriage? Those are social issues, what is the big "long-term" thinking from the right?

I wouldn't place Jobs into the same strata of influence as Obama. I think you think way too highly of Jobs' influence. Sure, I enjoy and purchase his/Apple's products, but comparing his influence to Obama's is a farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr stretch.

Of course I realise that Steve Jobs and President Obama are not in the same strata. President Obama is a world leader and Steve Jobs is a technology leader - but they are both supremely influential leaders none the less.

I hope it's a productive, insightful and successful meeting for both parties.

I would very much like to know the specifics of their conversation and what kind of outcome there will be (if any). It should be good anyways.

Agreed, I'd love to know some details about what they talked about.

Wow, you all totally miss the point. Obama just wants to know where the app is to fix Health Care, the economy, the war, find Bin Laden, not devalue the dollar. You could also take out "Obama" and insert any president.

Fact is, other factors not considered, they are both visionary charismatic leaders. The difference is that Jobs is also a subject matter expert and Barry is drowning in unknown waters.

I think both have something to gain from eachother. Obama can really learn a ton from jobs about organizational structure, goal completion, fiscal process and focus.

Jobs can position his company by recieving govt. support and funding to implement his vision of where technology should be headed. Overhauling and standardizing the cable tv structure OR creating standards for a national WiFi would be some examples.

IMO , the 2 will meet for 45 minutes but should shortly after meet a few times a month for the benefit of all.

I am a little scared of this meeting. Obama is all about redistribution of wealth, heavily taxing the rich, squelching innovation, and he has only made the unemployment situation worse. He has done nothing to create jobs, he only has made businesses scared to expand and hire anyone. Many companies are sitting tight, as they are scared of the proposed taxes, health care bills, etc. They are playing a wait and see attitude.
I'd like to know more.

as an objective? outsider- D Obama is the best head of state thats hit the US- different, yes........ very

from my perspective, the **********g bush enclave had no general US population interest at all when their planned emergence to politics where concerned............ it was/is about syphoning dollars from wherever the clan could harvest........ oil, iraq, afghanistan etc. ... forever ongoing?

methinks that Obama is way above such issues, inherited the crap from the previous regime, almost never to resolved, and you taxpayers are all still paying for it, and yet bickering about other issues- think! again!

the past meeting with steve jobs was influential, un-partial and mostly just normally HUMAN

:)

I imagine the upcoming abrupt transition to IPv6 will come up in the conversation.

Hmmm... 45 minutes...

They'll certainly talk about the role of technology in California politics, being that former eBay CEO Meg Whitman is a gubernatorial candidate.

Also if you take a quick look at http://opensecrets.org you'll notice that Apple is a major donor to various congressional campaigns & political action committees. A good chunk of the meeting will certainly revolve around that.

The role of technology & consumer spending in reviving the US economy will likely also be on the agenda.

My question for macrumors folks is: if you could be a fly on the wall in this meeting, what topic would you put forth for discussion between Obama & Jobs?

& before you ask, no, Obama can't have an iPhone (it's not "secret service certified"), he has a blackberry, and only 10 people are allowed to message it.

I really wish that the presidency were held to the same standard as the CEO of a major company. By that I mean, if the president is incompetent, he can easily be removed. (Not saying that Obama is incompetent tho).
