I am struggling to see how the location of OP, his ISP and the tier he pays for will affect his issue specific to downloading macOS Catalina. The only thing I can think of is just some random error that should subside with time. And, assuming there is no data cap being breached..

Where I come from, my location and ISP and the tier will be immaterial since this we are talking of downloading from a globally whitelisted website (Apple) and not about the ability to watch porn without a VPN.. :p
If he lives in the US, and his ISP is XFinity, I might be able to help him better.

And what is "since this we are talking", ie, "since this"? And nothing to do with porn!:D

Updated to 10.15.3 the other day and now it feels like i'm controlling my MBP with a rubber band, the cursor movement lags behind ever so slightly, both the built in trackpad and with a mouse, whats up with that? Anyone else got that?

Did something change in 10.15.3 with holding down option key after a restart to be able to go into recovery and use disk utility?

I used to be able to select recovery after entering WiFi password. I could think check disk or reinstall. I know you can use another key combination like command R, but I was having a problem with a new USB dvd/cd drive importing songs. It was freezing up music or even finder copying. At one point I could not even force quit music to be able to restart computer. I finally force shutdown then restarted and held option key, but while it still asked for WiFi it would just go straight into regular log in. Tried again with no option to do anything else. I went ahead and did it the other way, but even after a reinstall holding down option never gives me an option to do anything but log in normally.

This just happened to be my 1st time restart & hold option key using 10.15.3, but it used to work with other Catalina versions. Just not sure if it's a change or using new usb dvd/cd drive to import using Music & Catalina messed things up.

This is 1st time to do this using 10.15.3 & used to work with other Catalina versions. Just not sure if it's a change or usb dvd/cd drive & Catalina mess things up.

This is odd. Option should ideally just list out the available boot options. Get into Recovery and perform a disk repair and see if things get resolved. Otherwise, it might be time for a reinstall since you never know when such system-level corruption becomes bad enough to cause you other nuisance at the most inopportune time.

I went through both command R and option command R, ran disk utility (no issues found on any), and eventually reinstalled after still seeing issue; but after reinstall holding down option still just lists regular login while still wanting to select WiFi first. Also reset PRAM and SMC as a just in case. I think command R uses same built in recovery drive that I used to select after holding down option, but option process just still doesnt show it.

With freezing and force shutdown since music wouldn't quit I didn't unplug the usb dvd/cd drive first time I held option to boot up wanting to run disk utility. Should have used Command R but have a habit of using option and just selecting. It was first use of the USB dvd/cd drive and also a music CD. Not sure if holding down option without anything bootable in USB cd drive along is what caused this or earlier issues drive caused or both.

I am downloading off the App Store now and will recheck after. My TM backup is about a week old and wasn't backing up system files or I would have used it already, but if still an issue after App Store download i may try it after finding & saving any new files after last back up.

Okay, since after resetting PRAM and SMC did not do it, you best take it to the Apple Store and get this thing sorted. This is core functionality that should not have gone for a toss like this.

Edit: third try, erased USB, reran Patcher, did the install and it worked fine.

macPro4,1->5,1
Amfeltec Squid with Catalina installed on one blade.
Stock graphics card for install
No other cards
16GB RAM

Was running 10.15.1. Trying to update to latest release. I've made two different USB installers, each one with the latest download from dosdude1.com and the OS installer downloaded through the dosdude app. Install starts and gets through the reboot, but after a few minutes ("24 minutes remaining") says, "macOS could not be installed on your computer."

I'm stumped.

Just noticed on the new beta that the progress bar is the default blue colour on dark mode, rather than light-blue as it was. I was annoyed with that since Mojave, nice they've fixed it.

- Update:
macOS crashed with "BAD MAGIC! (flag set in iBoot panic header)" error. It's the first time I'm seeing this.

With the latest beta 2, I experienced a bunch of OS pop-ups when it booted up. It told me about incompatible extensions from AdGuard, Dropbox, and a few others. I don't remember the exact copy and didn't screenshot it. Anyone else with the same experience?

Well, I finally bit the bullet and updated (actually, clean reinstall) my 2018 Mini to Catalina, and to my great surprise, the Canon printer, which had until sometime last year been great, followed by a short period of "no driver available" followed later by the most terrible generic driver available (3 print quality options, "yes, no, 2" as options for grayscale, etc).... anyway - under Catalina it's back to what seems to be the original driver, so huzzah.

Of course, I also just bought a new printer literally a week ago, in part because of the seemingly abandoned status of the old one.

I installed the 10.15.4 Beta 2 yesterday. Things seemed fine and when updating apps, I get errors. E.g. box says "the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail." or hyper dock update says "Preferences Error, there was an error in hyper dock preference." I checked sudoers permissions and everything looked fine. Anybody know what's going on?

This looks like the right thread for this >
I am not highly skilled with sudo commands, especially not with these complications, but in trying to build a bootable USB device I ran into this error, below. As I understand it, I have a path problem. I took the syntax from Apple's support site, in trying to go from Yosemite to Catalina. There is a footnote on the support page saying to use the --applicationpath argument when building from one of the older versions, and I did that per their example given on the page. but the info from sudo is this:
Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/IAESD.framework/Versions/A/IAESD

Referenced from: /Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia

Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:

/Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/../Frameworks/IAESD.framework/Versions/A/IAESD: mmap() error 1 at address=0x103BC7000, size=0x00006000 segment=__TEXT in Segment::map() mapping /Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/../Frameworks/IAESD.framework/Versions/A/IAESD

/Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/../Frameworks/IAESD.framework/Versions/A/IAESD: mmap() error 1 at address=0x103BDA000, size=0x00006000 segment=__TEXT in Segment::map() mappingmac /Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/../Frameworks/IAESD.framework/Versions/A/IAESD

Can someone please give me a suggestion here? thank you in advance

EDIT: another clue: I have Disk Creator downloaded, but when I run it, select my USB drive, then select the Catalina image downloaded to the Applications folder, it returns this error:

'The selected item does not appear to be a valid macOS Installer.
It is lacking the file "Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg" '

but I downloaded from the App Store twice, just to be sure, and that's what it feeds....
should I go to an alternative download location and try again? That app does execute and tries to install Catalina but I want t totally clean install, not carry all this baggage forward.
thx

Sounds like a corrupt installer.

I just re-created my bootable flash drive (with HS, Mojave and Catalina on it), and had zero issues. (Bonus that I hadn't seen with previously built installer drives: the installer volumes show up with their respective OS "icon" in the boot menu!)

Try the download link from https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201475#download

Appreciate. I tried twice more, interrupting the actual install but no trace of the ESD. Once i Quitted when it got to the Restart point, still no visible trace of the entire package. Just the downloader. So finally just let it run. Now installed but that’s not a win. I want to wipe the original drive and clean install from USB. How do I get the file intact and visible?

I had tons of audio unit plugins that it deemed damaged and got disabled. Also had to reinstall iTunes and Plex Media Server :confused:

ugh. so now my macbook pro has started losing audio throughout the OS on the 10.15.3. just stops working - output is correctly set to speakers, and nothing can bring it back short of a restart... which means i have to also unplug my thunderbolt egpu because of THAT bug too.

Would someone suggest whether I make my 'problem' a separate post? It is, I am imagining, not unique to Catalina but to any of the later macOS versions - simply "how do I successfully download the ENTIRE ESD package/image in order to build a bootable USB installer for that version" . If Catalina is especially troublesome in that regard, please say so.
thx

Plex Media Server is broken again, despite re-install. Something is really borked with the security settings in this beta.

I read your previous post as well. I gather you fixed it and it is broken again in a span of 1 day? macOS Catalina betas have never been right for me, it got me off the macOS beta train.
