iPhone 14 Pro Max Milky Way with iPhone 14 PM

I finally got an opportunity to really test my iPhone 14PM last night.
Pretty satisfied with the results.

What photo app do you recommend for astrophotograph?

Outside Boden, Sweden (northen parts)

Those are very nice images. Great edits ans well. Even though the information shows 10 seconds, it’s actually 30 seconds which is three 10 second exposures, stacked or combined. Currently the default camera using night mode is probably the best app or best way to image the sky at night. If you want to do star trails on a tripod, the Even Longer app is the best available.

Yeah, I took a bunch of 10sec exposures and a bunch of 30sec exposures. Didn’t remember which one so I looked at the info button and it said 10 sec.

Can’t wait to try this out with my iPhone 13 Pro next week when I go to Joshua Tree National Park! As a test I used a tripod in my backyard tonight just to get familiar with it. I live outside of New York City so the light pollution is absolutely terrible here. Plus the sky was pretty hazy tonight. And in the very center of this picture you can see I was able to easily capture the Andromeda Galaxy! I used SkySafari to confirm it. I can’t wait to see what this phone captures out in an actual Dark Sky location!

The andromeda galaxy is visible to the naked eye under decently dark skies. What you might want to look at is a light pollution map. Start here and locate a dark area that’s close and try shots there.

Also there is a website called the clear sky chart.. it will tell you if the skies are clear, transparent, or cloudy.

A basic astronomy app like sky safari will be useful. The light pollution map will help a great deal I think.

Nah… LOL, yours is a lightweight compared to the one I used to have…this was a beast in size. It was like a pet elephant moving it around. It had wheelbarrow handles with two wheels to move it. This was my 20” dobsonian. They are made up to 25” these days. Here is a link.

A lot of us get pretty serious when astronomy is a hobby, it’s expensive at times. I bought mine used for $5k. Sold it 6 years ago. Now I have a 10” similar to your 8”. The larger the primary mirror, the fainter you can see into space.

My Milky Way from last weekend taken with iPhone 13 PRO, 30s, Apple ProRAW, edited in Lightroom Mobile. Only tripod, no star tracker.
You can easily notice small North America Nebula (Cygnus constellation)

Is there any way to control ISO and shutter speed (I would like to use 16s, not 30s and lower ISO)?
I tried different apps where I can manual adjust shutter speed and iso, but with no luck (there is always 1s limit in ProRAW mode).

We spent the past two nights at Palm Desert near Joshua Tree National Park. The first night was cloudy but last night was decent so we went out at 3am after the moon had set…was fantastic! Original raw image and my attempt in Lightroom…

Here are the premium features, nothing worth it for star photo I would say. For stars photo the white balance and edits of the brightness in dark areas are most important:

Good one!! Have you heard of the Even Longer app? It now has a night mode setting to where you can choose ISO and exposure time up to 30 seconds. It’s a continuous exposure, not multiple stacked images like the iPhone default night mode camera app. You’ll have to pay for the pro features though, it’s not much and it’s a fantastic app. You’ll probably have to manually focus the camera sometimes though. But finally I can set my iPhone to an ISO of my choice and exposure length of my choice.. that equals awesome for me…
