If you're going to buy a new one, then go for the 15". Mine offers plenty of screen size, and it fits perfect in my bag, I take it to school almost every day.

I have a brand new 17 and I don't think it is that big... It can fit in my backpack and looks actually smaller than I thought it would. Hey, at least you do not have the problem of having a 12inch and looking like a girl! Man up.

LOL, 12" Pb are really good, they just aren't for me. I wouldn't go as far as calling them girlie.

I paid atleast $2800 for it with the edu price. I had the 100GB HD upgraded then I had them put 1sodim of 1gb and 1sodim of 512mb for a total of 1.5gb of ram. You dont think anyone will pay $200 below the edu price for a basically new powerbook?

How about a 12" iBook and a 20"iMac.

iBook is certainly enough for on campus....almost comparable to current PB, and then you get a G5 to work on at home....

That's what I have, except it's a powermac w/ 20" ACD instead of an imac. The perfect combo.

The 17" Powerbook is comparable in size to many PC 15.4" laptops. Example

Dell Inspiron 8600 (my bro's Laptop) = 14.2" x 10.8" x 1.5" around 7 lbs
Apple 17" Powerbook = 15.4" x 10.2" x 1" around 7 lbs

As you see with Apple you can get the 17" for almost the same size of 15.4" PC laptops. Powerbook 17" will surely be mine in a few years.

Dell Inspiron has 230.04 cubic inches while PB only 157.08 cubic inches. Do you see your dilemma right now. Your 17" PB takes up less space (when comparing volume) than other PC laptops, plus it is also a bit lighter.

Damn, now that is engineering.

yea but isnt the apple a little more intrusive? like id rather carry a 10lb weight in my back pack than a 6lb 5ftx10ft piece of thin plywood. also like awkwardness on a desk?

Pfffft people who get 17inch pb's are only trying to make up for their small penis's . Real men who aren't ashamed of their penis's get 12 inch pb.

LOL, we have a PB war here, never seen this one before. Size of the screen should be chosen upon your needs and what R U planning on doing on you computer. It will be better if you Rob587 barrow a 15" PB from your friend to get the feel for it. That is what I would do. You exchange them for the time of this try out. If you still have doubts, then go ahead and replace it.

yeah, yeah, I am flip floppin'

If you are sitting in an average lecture hall any except the smallest of laptops will be cramped... it's like trying to open a 17" laptop on an economy airplane seat. If you are in a classroom with independent desks it's a different story.

Well over the summer I bought a 17" powerbook for school and now that Im here Ive decided that I want to bring my powerbook to class but its HUGE. Im so pissed right now. I thought forever about what I was going to get and I fell in live with the 17", and now that Im here I totally regret it because of sheer funtionality. I feel like I have the worst of both worlds. Too big for class yet small 17" screen vs other desktop moniters. Can I sell it and get close to what I bought it for? If so I deffinatley think Im going to switch to a 12" with 20" acd. Do you guys think this is smart or am I being impulsive? Can I sell it to apple and get store credit? Like where do they get their refurbs from? or is ebay my best bet? thanks.

Heh... that is EXACTLY the problem my three friends have with their 17'' widescreen laptops. One is a Dell the other two are Apple.
Heh... they even asked to trade me their 17 for my 12 in all out seriousness. Too bad I love my 12'' laptop too much.

does it feel awkward in class compared to everyone else?

ummm.....is this all about you being worried that people are going to point at you and laugh or something??

I'm getting the impression that you haven't actually been caring it about and using it in classes yet but that you're just worrying about it for when you do??

Paper is always better...

I don't understand how people can use computers in class. To me it's very distracting and if there is wireless then most people browse the web or play games. All of my classes would require me to have equation editor in full use and I can't navigate it as fast as writing it on a piece of paper.

So my comment for you would be to keep the PB, use paper.

I take my laptop (17") to school with me but I don't use it for class.

Anyways good luck,

Nuc

If you sell it,you're gonna take a loss unless you can trade someone who has a 15" 1.67 with the 128 MB VRAM upgrade.

You might ask Apple if they would let you trade down to a 15" with the same specs.

Keep it for home use and buy a 12" ibook for lugging
around.

Sell it and buy an iBook/iMac G5 combo.

Sell it and get the 12" PowerBook and a 20" display.

Take up weight lifting ;)
