Using the 6 Pro as a secondary device, just purchased a Surface Pro 8 (I love it)... all that's left is to leave Apple. Ugh, iMessage.

I replaced it with the 6 Pro. I couldn't justify keeping it since it only has one more year left of support.
I'm enjoying it more than my iPhone for a few reasons: Unlike many people, I actually really like the Googe search bar on the home screen; I use it so often. I also love the Google News feed. It's gotten a lot better for me these last few weeks to the point that I scroll through it daily. Everything about the OS just feels cleaner and more minimal, which I love.
It's really funny to think that Android is more minimal than iOS. Even Samsung has gone from the TouchWiz bloat to a more minimal experience than iOS with OneUI. But I definitely agree with you. I like alot of what Apple has added with iOS 16 but some of it just doesn't seem well implemented and I'm not sure I really like the way their UI design is going. I may be the only one that thinks the Dynamic Island looks like some crap tacked on just to hide the pill which in effect makes a bigger "notch" area. Hopefully there is a way to turn it off if one wishes to.
A nice feature for those that like keep their phones for more than 2 years. In the latest Android 13 preview build, Google is going to add battery health to it's battery setting to let you know what condition your battery is in (Good/Fair/Poor).
I upgraded from a Pixel 4A to P6. The $100 off pushed me to do so, but the screen from the P4A was a bit too narrow for my taste (2.7". IIRC, it's similar to the iPhone SE). I was tempted to get a P6pro since it was $250 off! (so from $900 to $650!), but for these reasons, I didn't...
1) thought it would be too big for me. The P6 may be a bit large, but it's something I can work with. Glad I skipped the P6A
2) the screen curves into the side which still kinda weirds me out
3) Still beyond my $500 budget. Mind you, such a generous discount on the P6pro didn't go past me.
I'm liking my P6 thus far! It's not really new territory b/c a lot of things take from my P4A experiences (used for just over 2 years). There are several drawbacks I immediately noticed...
--glass black vs. plastic matte back
makes it more slippery. AFAIK, this is needed for wireless charging.
--no headphone jack
I hardly use this, but I still need to look into workarounds b/c when it does come up, it'd be nice to have that option

I’m thinking of getting Pixel 6a as a secondary phone. I use daily iPhone 11 Pro and still use Samsung Galaxy (OG) watch which I bought it when I had Pixel 2 XL. For $400 on amazon it seems like good deal.
For me iMessage and the fact that I use a lot of Apple devices so I am in ecosystem that plays nice.
Only my family members use Signal. Some use WhatsApp. My best buddy stubbornly use Apple Messages app only.
Would be nice if apple adopted RCS as fallback for cross platform messaging but we know it’s not gonna happen in foreseeable future.

..nonissues for me with battery ..I did have Digital Wellbeing disabled but toggle it off anyway ..left the health services on ..

It really is unfortunate that we have to turn these features off in order to be able to use our phone."
Adaptive Charging...
This I'm aware of. It keeps the battery as far away from 100% as possible, but then shoots for that when needed (like when charging your phone overnight, then jumping to 100% before you wake up, based on past usage).

For the former, I don't see myself charging the phone overnight a lot. I generally yank it while I'm awake when it's 70% to 100%, so "close enough'. For the latter, this may be a shame to lose. OTOH, I'm morbidly curious if nothing else to see what gains I'll get by disabling the 2.
Hmmm, I turned off both services and Google usage, so a total of three. Overnight I lost just 3% instead of the normal 8-10%. It’s too soon to tell but this could have possibilities for extending battery life.
After 12 hours with the phone being on idle, I have only lost 4% battery life since turning off those services. That is a first for me. I would be around 12-14% loss in the same time frame.
I turned off Usage Access for Digital Wellbeing, Device Health Services and Google.
Yup, I lost only 4% in 12 hours of idle usage. That's a huge improvement as that would have been easily 10-12% just sitting idle.
