Yeah you’re right it does. I remember the figures being same when I used coconut battery on MacBook.

3UTools shows something completely different than the two it would appear. Both displaying results at same time.
Well that’s not cool lol. That’ll only confuse and frustrate people imo. It does me just looking at it.

Today, the iPhone Battery Health shows 99% ?
Bound to happen of course, just hate seeing it. (Just hope it's not like my lemon 12 Pro Max, it went from 99 to 98%...97, etc in no time...)

The Coconut % has been all over the place since Oct. Severe drop, it recovers, big drop again...recovers. Since Jan 1, it's been down with no recovery. Today it shows "96%," this time again with the phone showing 99%.

I notice that your battery was manufactured by Desay Corporation, mine was by Sunwoda. I also track my battery through Coconut and it never showed up and down battery capacity like yours.

It looks like your battery health has dropped to 94%. On such a new phone, at most 4 months old, that is a big drop. Especially, when most of them start out with more then 100% capacity and you only have 7 charge cycles.

My launch day iPhone 13 Pro Max still has 102% charge capacity even after 51 charge cycles. Pretty much the same as the day I received the phone.

Wow that is an amazing drop on a brand new phone. I’d keep an eye on that and ask for a replacement the moment that hits 80. I just checked my 13PM and it is Sunwoda.

Dropped to 98%, not sure when that happened..1% drop in less than 12 days though.
(Coconut shows 97.2%)

I'm kind of over it, I'm not checking the health like a OCD mental case anymore. I'm not seeing horrific drain though throughout my day...yet...which is cool.

Eh, it is what it is.

Not sure but from that post you quoted, looks like that phone with just 7 charge cycles and 94% likely was just sitting in a drawer collecting dust from what I can tell.

i think that Coconut reads the "batteryNominalCharge Value" in the aggregatedLog file on the iPhone. Even though there some gap beetween the 2 value (tested on 2 different units).

In my unit (13PM) i have those values, after 26 cycles:
- batteryNominalCharge Value --> 4378
- coconut --> 4410/20 as average

The screenshot says it is a 13 Pro Max unless I’m missing something. That said, I've had a phone come 96% from the factory - most, however, are 100% or slightly over.

Coconut is definitely reading something other than what Apple does for current charge reads imo. Just observing people reporting coconutBattery battery capacities and Apple Battery Health meter reads - there's definitely something going on there.

From what I've observed, for current charge level %, Apple likes to play the "Needle on Full" gas tank analogy with the iPhone - meaning it'll report full longer than it should, then drop faster as it drains. I've observed up to a 6% difference between what the iPhone's current charge level % reports and actual charge.

1643640436840.jpeg

For example, (see above), last night I charged my phone for a tiny bit before going to bed and note how it held its charge all night. Had I not done that, it would have been a downward curve as the battery capacity drops slowly overnight.

As it is, my phone, right now, says it is 83% charged. coconutBattery says 78.8% (above screenshot).

Work provided me with a new MBP last year in September:

It has gone from 100% to 96% to back several times already (see today):

Like you, I'm just gunna observe and continue to use like normal. I do look forward to the day that we have more control over our phone's charging / batteries. I'd love to tell my phone: Never charge past 80%. Always charge slow unless I say otherwise. But I imagine just adding features like these would frustrate most users and cause a headache for tech support. :(.

Now it's saying 100%+ again after reporting 96.8% this morning. :)

Do you have AppleCare+? I would be using that phone to its full potential and the day it drops under 80% I'd walk into an Apple store asking for a battery replacement. I'd also keep an eye on that design capacity and see if it changes at all. What does your phone health % say if I may ask?

Not sure if this is for "tuanlouis" or me. (My battery pic)

Anyway, yes I do have AppleCare+, like my old dud of a 12 ProMax I pay it monthly...didn't want to drop big $$ in one shot if I wasn't 100% sure I wasn't upgrading in Sept. 2021, which I did wasn't the plan, but trade in $$ was nice)...or maybe this Sept. We'll see.

I know Apple is a real pain about this 80% health rule, my 12 Pro Max was down to 83% the day before 13 Pro Max went on sale...a 10 month old phone. Apple Support was absolutely useless and was months prior as my 12PM drained 1% every 7-9...to 14 days. Kept claiming "it's normal."

I'm 100% convinced the Apple Desay / Sunwoda...whoever makes these batteries / quality since - I think 11 series have declined dramatically. I didn't own the 11, but saw problems with that as well. My experience with 12PM was terrible. I've changed the way I charge the phone since last year, no Mag Safe...I do wired low wattage charge, 80% "rule," heck the phone even runs on low power 90% of the time, I take a hell of a lot of Pics, videos...other than that I'm a light user.

I'll continue to check on my battery health, but won't obsess over it like I did last year.

You can have more control over your charging, use a HomeKit smart plug and a Shortcuts automation script to control when the charger is stopped. I use my smart plug and stop charging at 80%. Can even have it start charging at a particular time if you like. When the charging stops at 80%, I can leave it plugged in over night and not worry about it overcharging.

I am tempted to look into this. Set it once and forget it. Seems like several forum members do this now as well. I really need to buckle down and just do it. :p

I just got kind of OCD about battery health (OMG!) and now i use this trick to have the maximum benefit from charge: tinyurl.com/y92c52v9

EDIT: LOL. @Taz Mangus, the poster above, taught me the how to play with automations. Thanks again mate!

Long story short: buy a smart charger that works with Apple Home and you have the job done ?

I think the most affordable indicator of the capacity is the battery.NominalChargeCapacity value you can find in the log aggregated file. Bit tricky but useful.

Coconut is definitely reading something other than what Apple does for current charge reads imo. Just observing people reporting coconutBattery battery capacities and Apple Battery Health meter reads - there's definitely something going on there.

I agree with your "needle on full" gas tank theory :)

From what I'm seeing is that Apple is definitely doing something internally too - (my opinion/observations only) for my MBP there's times where it'll lower the voltage of the battery and sometimes coconutBattery will read 96%, other times my MBP will read at 100% capacity. All I can guess is that Apple is trying to do some battery preservation? I don't doubt that there were batches of bad batteries. My 12 PM was traded in at 104% after 120 cycles while my wife's was dropping to 93% with almost 2x the cycles.

Yeah, I won't worry about it. I love batteries and love watching them. I have 3 external battery packs that I like to play around with too :p.

You will be refunded the prorated amount for the AC+ should you decide to cancel. So it’s still best to purchase it outright.

Yes I was aware that it was a 13 pro max. But I’ve had that similar battery build week and it came 104%. But it’s possible to just buy a 13 pro max and just put it in a drawer lol.

Right now, I am totally baffled at my Coconut &iMazing readings. My iPhone 13 PM does show 97% Battery Health now. It's been sitting at that number for a while....much longer than when it went from 98 to 97. When it hit 99-98%, the numbers in Coconut matched up, mid to upper 90s%

Anyway I checked the apps for the first time in a while...since updating to 15.4, ummm.....??
Did that 15.4 update recalibrate the battery!? I never thought I'd see 102-103% again, let alone 100%! No complaints...just bizarre.

Just surprised your 13PM reached 91% so quick, guess it was just a fluke and truly is still at 100%.
