Basically i think i get the same thing, it's kinda like when you lean your head back and move it around, it's just stiffness (old age catching up  ) nothing serious................... unless you had a fall/accident recently then it may be a fractured vertibrae, but hey what's the chances of that ;)

I have been having very similar things happen for a few years. It sounds like a cross between a fizzing soda.. and the sound of a zipper.. and I don't think it's arthritis or some kind of bone issue because it mostly happens when I'm not moving my head or neck at all while lieing down.. it doesn't hurt at all.. I'm actually really glad I finally know I'm not crazy.

Okay, so I swear I'm not crazy.... or at least not TOO crazy. Anyway, today here at work, I'm talking to my team lead and my neck starts doing this sizzling thing. Right from the base of my neck where it meets the skull, there's this sizzly / tingly / think french fries in hot oil weird sound coming out... and he can hear it, too. He says he has the same thing.

I've googled, I've web-md'd, and I can't find crap on this. I've not asked my doctor about it, but I'm going to. Anyone else have this?

It's not a sound coming from bones, or from turning your head. Don't say arthritis, because that's not it either. It's like it comes right out of my spine. I'm 22, going on 23 on the 24th of this month... and these noises didn't really start until I was like 18 or 19. They usually come on when I'm super hungry. My stomach growls with hunger pain, and then I hear the sizzles.

So, do you have the same thing? Know what it is? Am I really crazy, or what?
..

I'm so new to this site but thank god I've found someone with the same thing.. I'm literally just layin here right now listening to it..

Like a loose connection type of thing right at the back of the neck below the skull..

I've told my doctor about it but she couldn't tell me what it is.. and obv I can't just do it on demand..

Did you find out what it was???

Yeah i got the same thing its sounds like pop rock or pop fizzing and usually when im hungry too. Like i hear my stomach growl make noise n than I hear it by the base. I told 5 docs some specialist and they all tell me never heard of it. Neurologist even told me she doesn't know she was rude . Told me if im still alive after all these years its not life threatening. Drives me crazy. I was just on Antibotics for sinus infection n noticed it less. But again it comes n goes when it wants too. Im 30 and started around 17

I've never really thought much of it... simply because it never seemed threatening and only happens when I'm hungry. Wouldn't have noticed it again today, but I managed to skip breakfast and was starving.

The only problem, is my doctor is going to look at me like I'm a friggin nutcase. I can't exactly reproduce the problem very easily, either.

So, no one else with the same hissing spine?

I have the same thing, first I thought there was something very bad with my body, not living a healthy lifestyle could cause this..

But when I took a closer look at how I felt every time when it happens I noticed that I was always hungry for food + I was laying down too. So.. everybody knows your stomach can makes this crazy grizzly/shizly sound when a human is hungry after a while.. That was my problem, I was hungry, my stomach was making this sound BUT, because I was laying down my stomach was probably resting on top of or connected to my spine or some other nerve or body part in my body that was connected to my neck/head that led to hearing this sound at such a frequency internally...

The sound is very crazy, like something is growing/moving inside your body/neck. Very bad and scary to hear this sound coming from your neck, also only you can hear it and you hear it twice as load because it's internal body sounds haha..
As of late I lost some weight, take care of my food and all the sounds have gone away.

Hope that helps.. Just check how you feel when it happens.

Bro, i know exactly what u're talking about and have the same thing, this is the "Brain-Gas" you have" most probably. Do you have IBS or suffer from excessive gases? if yes then it is the cause. for treatment get yourself Probiotics pills and clean your diet and you shall be fine. Trust me on this. i have the same and after Probiotics all good as old days, the Bad bacteria in the intense does it all. Read about it. Good luck
[doublepost=1528175746][/doublepost]Hi there AbadO, do you still have the fissing sound or has it disappeared now after changing your diet and talking probiotics?

Hmmm, it's not really any certain way the neck is. It's just a noise that happens, like something sizzling.... no movement required.
[doublepost=1532353331][/doublepost]I know I get what your talking about also. Iv had it a long time now and the only way I can describe it is it sounds like sand running down my neck or a rattle snake, I used to say to my boyfriend then gave up because I sounded nuts and today he heard it twice. So I’m on here again to find answers. Although I think we have to face the fact of seeking professional help, mine isn’t painful or anything, it’s just bugging me to find out what it is, although I don’t get it when I’m hungry because if I did it would literally be every 5 minutes.. let me know if you find out though

This thread has been here a long time, and I don’t know if this has been posted.

Crepitus, sometimes called crepitation or cavitation, refers to any type of noise or sensation such as a cracking, popping, snapping, or grinding sound that is heard during neck movement. ... The neck joints are bathed in an oily-like substance call synovial fluid, which allows motion to freely occur in between the bones.

Problem is we suffer when our body is completely still. I dont have to move at all. When it starts, I will lay completely still, because it doesn't happen just once, but a few times. I wish I knew what it was... it's driving me nuts
