an nvme ssd should in theory work as intended with 187.0.0.0.0 bootrom, so it must be something else. I'd try a different ssd if possible - maybe your current one is simply incompatible. Also if there is a firmware update available for your ssd - it might be a good idea to apply it before trying to swap it. Note: remember to create backups.

I dont know if the 102000wd is the latest driver of my wd black sn750.
It says that it does support smart and trim

I've returned to Apple SSD, before I disabled hibernation with
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 standby 0 autopoweroff 0
How do I re enable default settings? Thanks

Edit2: I managed to get Apple 512 GB SSD correct one that hibernates on 2013-2014 is MZ-JPU......
MZ-JPV.... is for 2015 and will not hibernate same as third party NVMe's.

In case anyone is interested, it seems like the sabrent 2TB drive is overheating in my 2015 15" MBP. I get higher speeds for a moment, then the fans kick on, and the drive slows way down. Not sure if there's a way to fix this.

Download drivedx or other software to check for ssd temperature. Maybe an smc reset can fix it.

That’s what I’m wondering. I’m past the return window for my 2TB Sabrent but if I wasn’t, I’d be looking for a drive that runs cooler. It was fine with the 2013, i suspect because it wasn’t running at full speed.

Regardless of the higher capacity, if I change the 256Go SSD of my mid-2014 MBP 13 by a much faster NMVE SSD, will I see an improvement of the reactivity ?

So my 1TB drive and adapter are supposed to arrive today according to Purolator tracking. Is it as simple as "plug and play"? Just install the drive and migrate my backup to the new drive? Or is there more steps to do beforehand?

I did some research and found that bootrom 188.0.0.0.0 is available for my macbook.
(I’m currently on the latest catalina 10.15.1)

yes, you should be abe to upgrade to 188.0.0.0. I have MBP 12,1 as well.

Oh man, that's not good news. DriveDx seems to think it's only running about 49 degrees, not too bad. I'm not sure what accounts for the wildly varying write and read speeds though. Your warning made me connect my Time Machine drive just in case...

When you see the error pop-up, "The Computer restarted unexpectedly....", please do the following;
1. press Shift + F10 keys.
2. launch "regedit".
3. find this directory, "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion"
4. once you can see "setup.exe" in the right section, double-click it and modify the value to 3.
5. close the regedit.
6. reboot

Probably you can pass the error stage.

Super interesting - I wonder if the thermal situation of putting these in the MacBooks is related to that at all?

I've had two 2TB Rockets operating in my Hack since they first came out and they are flawless and fast and wonderful -- But -- my NVMe connections on the z370n-wifi MoBo have plenty of airflow and my main drive has a heatsink provided by Gigabyte.

Regarding the problems with the Sabrent Rocket 2TB including heat issues and high failure rates. I notice the manufacturer web site says

“When installing any NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD directly onto a PCIe Gen4 Motherboard a Heatsink is required to dissipate the heat generated by the drives extreme speed levels to avoid thermal throttling and maximize performance.”

Other drives seem to be PCIe Gen 3. What PCIe standard do our Macs use, when fitted with sintech adapter?

I am looking for a 2TB drive to put in both a 2015 MacBook Pro and a 2015 MacBook Air.
Would Corsair MP510 be a good choice considering the criteria below?

Even though Sabrent Rocket is highly rated in the charts at the top of this thread it seems I should avoid it due to heat issues and high failure rates.

Would the Corsair one I reference be a good choice for both computers, considering my goals below (and what others should I consider)?

1. It must have a low enough power draw to create minimal heat inside the computer, so as to not reduce the life of the motherboard and not to cause excessive battery drain. Drive should not require me to install a heat sink.
2. It must work with Boot Camp
3. I prefer 4K sectors to be compatible with Sierra 10.12.x (and to be able to use HFS+ and not just APFS), but am willing to give this one up if it will help other criteria.
4. It should not cause high CRC errors in the SSD when used with sintech adapter. I read at iFixIt this can be an issue that will wear out drives prematurely.
5. The drive should have good write endurance. The popular Intel 660p has low endurance of 400 TB written. The one I name above is over 3000TB.
6. It must not cause sleep/hibernate issues, which I understand I am in the clear for both my 2015 computers regardless of which drive I use.

Also, Which sintech adapter should I get, the short version or the long version?

Hello again...and merry christmas!

As far as told already, I seemed to be happy with my "adata 8200 pro" updated system - so far.
Today I tried sharing an new "icloud shared" foto stream (from my mac) with my family - and it did not show up anywhere.

Afterwards I tried to do the same just using my iphone - not a problem at all - works fine.
Afterwards I disabled the shard fotos option and enabled it once again - now - all shared folders are not visible/ accessible via my macbook anymore...

Does any of you guys have an idea?

Hi @code600, I tried the same thing today, flashing a MBP2014 with 2015 NVME drivers. I followed the steps outlined here: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...e.2034976/page-54?post=26102169#post-26102169

Dosdudes ROMTool confirmed the flash, but rechecking with UEFITool suggests, that nothing got flashed. Even the checksum did not change. (My System is running on a 960GB JetDrive 'TS960GJDM850' on a MacBookPro11,3 with OSX10.13.6)

Any hints on how you did this?

Who are you responding to? The only mod required is if you have a mbp older than 2015 and you want hibernation. Other than that, no mods required. Also, how often does the bootrom get updated? Not with every system update. Also seems like most systems with NVME drives don’t even get the bootrom update.
