I follow box office a bit, and I don't find any of this success surprising. Its from an existing series and falls in line with the prequel/sequel thing. The fact that it did more money than something R-Rated like Logan? I boil that down to it being a tad shorter, Batman properties having more appeal than X-Men, and it not being AS violent (though frankly, its still pretty gross and excessive in its own right).
I wish the movie was better, it seemed to just be a cinematic sad trombone without much to say beyond poor people are more miserable in Gotham than those with money.
How does it compare to the Dark Knight? Heath Ledger’s Joker seems hard to exceed or even match.

4 great movies ?

I liked the prequel version of the thing as well, have always been fond of that story after reading “Who Goes There?” Back in the 70’s

Have all of the Thing films and like them all for their own specific reasons, although I think the 1982 film pushes a lot of boundaries presenting not only physical, but phycological horror which to me is far more unnerving than blood & gore.

If into the Thing, The Void comes well recommended, it's a little existential, equally The Void literally kicks in instantly. If you want to get right out there Possession very disturbing an excellent watch, hard to get through, one of Sam Neil's best performances, with some Lovecraft influences. You'll either be blown away or be left scratching your head as to what exactly you've just watched, that's Possession...

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)- This is an example of the perfect Marvel Universe movie, fires on all cylinders, right amount of humor, good action, supreme entertainment... if you like movies based on the Marvel Universe. :D

Just realized I haven't had the time to watch a whole film for a few weeks now, so that's what's happening now. I've had Apocalypse Now (The Final Cut on 4K UHD) sitting in my shelf for a while, and since that's the one version I've yet to see that's going into the player now.

I guess not much needs to be said about the film, most will know what it's about and how it tells it's story. A classic.

Yeah, I did watch that "version" of it, and as before, a classic!

There's no comparison. Regardless how you feel about TDK, Ledger's performance is one of the all-time great cinematic villains.

I saw Charlie's Angels and it was fun- the Angels had good chemistry, good fight scenes. Nothings truly amazing but for a mid-range international action flick, its a decent time.

Alan Parker: Angel Heart (1987)

One of those films I'll never forget. I watched this for the first time wayyyy too young, and actually had a couple of pretty vivid nightmares about it in the following weeks. A very effective horror mystery noir with Mickey Rourke really bringing his A-game as private investigator Harry Angel, and De Niro's no slouch either as the mysterious Mr. Cyphre who employs him to track down a missing crooner named Johnny Favorite. As one would expect, the search for the singer doesn't exactly go as planned.

A great film, still as effective as ever.

Speaking of great actors, I'd be curious to see what movie others would choose as the best movie for a particular actor. I'll start it off with a some, along with some comments for each:

Robert De Niro - Goodfellas (so many others, including The Deer Hunter and an "off beat" one, Awakenings)

Al Pacino - The Godfather or The Godfather Part II (tough decision there, although he was excellent (with De Niro) in Heat)

Joe Pesci - JFK or Goodfellas (another tough one, and of course Casino is a good one too)

Harrison Ford - The Fugitive or Witness (and another tough one! Still, excellent in Air Force One, and The 3 Star Wars Movies)

Kevin Bacon - Murder In The First (he has also been excellent in others, including JFK (not too big of a part), Flatliners, and Taking Chance (technically a TV movie))

Dustin Hoffman - Rain Man (most folks would choose The Graduate, and of course he was excellent in it. Some others include Midnight Cowboy, Tootsie, and Kramer vs. Kramer)

Gene Hackman - Hoosiers (so many for him, including The French Connection, Unforgiven, and Crimson Tide)

Tom Cruise - A Few Good Men (another one with too many to choose from! Of course there is Top Gun, and with the sequel Top Gun Maverick coming out in June, Rain Man, and The Last Samurai)

Jack Nicholson - The Departed, Chinatown, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, or A Few Good Men (man, so many good ones! As Good As It Gets, Terms of Endearment., etc.)

Clint Eastwood - Grand Torino (again so, so many! Unforgiven, Sudden Impact, Pale Rider, etc., etc.)

Brad Pitt - Moneyball (have not seen too many with him, although I do remember Oceans Eleven)

Tom Hanks - Forrest Gump (Philadelphia, Cast Away, The Green Mile, Sully, etc., etc.)

Meryl Streep - Kramer vs. Kramer (The Deer Hunter, The Post, Silkwood, etc.)

Shirley MacLaine - Terms of Endearment (The Apartment, Two Mules for Sister Sara, etc.)

That should be enough!

Jack Nicholson- Easy Rider, Witches of Eastwick.

Gene Hackman- Bonny and Clyde.
Cher- Moonstruck.
Rock Hudson, Liz Taylor- Giant.
Harrison Ford- American Graffiti, Indiana Jones Series.

You've got way too much respect for the film JFK. The bug addled conspiracy laden Oliver Stone effort made feel sad for everyone involved more than it entertained me.

Other than that most of the films you've listed are pretty good choices.

The Shirley MacLaine choices are on point!

Yeah, those are very good choices. Also, Harrison Ford was in Apocalypse Now. And Clint Eastwood was in another less known gem with Kevin Costner, entitled "A Perfect World". That was actually a very good movie (Clint directed it). Here is the trailer for it:

I thought it was well done. As it is, some of the things Stone "conjectured about" in the movie are true. But one has to admit that the acting done by so many of the stars (Kevin Costner, Joe Pesci, Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Oldman, etc.) was excellent! Speaking of Gary Oldman and Kevin Costner, here are my choices for their best roles:

Keven Costner - JFK, Dances With Wolves, Field of Dreams (also A Perfect World, The Untouchables)

Gary Oldman - JFK, Air Force One, Murder In The First

Additionally, I've always believed that if one wants to enjoy a series of movies about the Vietnam War, here is what should be watched, in the order indicated:

JFK
The Post
All The President's Men
Frost/Nixon
(PBS Series, by Ken Burns) The Vietnam War

Speaking of All He President's Men, I forgot to add that to another excellent Dustin Hoffman performance, along with Robert Redford.

No it’s not enough.
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal. Best actor of that decade.
Agree! Interesting that you mention Hannibal, as Gary Oldman was in it also.

Also, I left off too many great actors. One is Robert Duvall. So many movies that he made are classics. I guess the ones I remember the most are The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, The Natural, and the infamous "I love the smell of napalm. It smells like ... victory":
Apocalypse Now.

Another person I briefly mentioned was Robert Redford. I liked him the best in All The President's Men, The Natural, and The Sting. But of course there are so many others, like the classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Out of Africa (another Meryl Streep gem!), and The Horse Whisperer.
