Can browsers or websites uniquely identify a Macbook pro like identifying an iPhone using UUID or AdID? or by MAC address? Or do they identify only using IP address or the Browser properties and cookies?

For example, Tinder just did it this morning, for no particular reason, having never done so before, and I can't think of a reason it would need it, or what could trigger it. I think Signal did once but that was specifcally for transferring messages I believe.
