I have ESIM, but I moved from an iPhone 12 Pro on credits to an iPhone 13 Pro. Bought the 13 Pro from Apple and did the ESIM transfer from my 12 to the new 13.

I traded in the 12 Pro at Apple for the 13 Pro and paid in full the 13 Pro balance, so I owe nothing on the 13 Pro.

I did this back in Nov '21 and I am still getting my monthly credits on my 12 Pro (from trading in my 11 Pro).

And just to confirm, I am on AT&T

Hope that makes sense.

It does. Excellent - thank you

Wow. Surprised would be able to trade in since att locks devices.

Locked or unlocked was never even discussed during the trade in process.
This is good news. Might be upgrading to ip14. Wanted to trade in ip12. I am not using the esim. Maybe I could just use my current sim on new device. Not sure if there is any trigger that will make att stop credits.

I doubt that sim versus ESIM would make any difference. My speculation is that AT&T doesn't really care what phone you are using as long as you keep the cellular plan that has the credits attached.

Just be careful with ATT. Still having to deal with a really ugly trade in "bait and switch" with them.

How do you know new device won’t have good trade in deals? Could if iPhone 14 non pro is a rebranded iPhone 13 effectively with a15 again

Could also be a sales slouch since we are in an R-word

Thinking ahead. Will wait to see what is best. Paying off balance and trading in with att for $800 @ 36 months, probably not worth it. For example, if owed $300 would really be getting only $500 and would need to keep 36 months to get.

Gotcha

I’m probably not gonna do any deals just figure it out and pay
Outright

It was a sweet deal trading in a used $200 iPhone8 on eBay for $800 in credits and a $199 iPhone 12 Pro 128 essentially that will be wrapped up in the spring but

I dunno if I feel like doing it again even going no where with att.

Got lots of gift cards. Plus dunno if I’ll get an iPhone 14 or just stay put longer

If iPhone 14 pro is any worthwhile upgrade, I’m considering trading my iPhone 13 Pro on credits into Apple as discussed here. It’s the best way to keep value alive in my current phone as it’s under installments for another two years.

No reason to expect ESIM only activation will throw a wrench in things right in terms of still getting credits while moving up out of pocket to a newer device?

Considering a 12 pro obtained from this trade in program, to an unlocked 14 pro max and keeping 12 pro around for a while for other purposes (TrollStore, JB prospects, backup, etc.)

Calling AT&T customer support is like talking to a “black hole” these days. Support has degraded and worst I have ever seen.

In my situation, paying off my 8 month iPhone 12 Pro balance and trading in an old 11 Pro works out much better than apple. I could trade in my 12 Pro for an extra $200 but I think it's worth more than that.

AT&T
AT&T 8 installment balance -$293 ($36/mo)

*bill credit +$213 (~$26x8 mo)
*amount owed after bill credit -$80

iPhone 11 Pro trade in +$800 - $293 = +$507
iPhone 14 Pro $1099 - $507 = $592 final cost

Apple
11 Pro Trade in $300
AT&T balance +$133 ($213 bill credit - $80 owed)
iPhone 14 $667 final cost

Can I buy iPhone 14 from anywhere by upgrading and financing without doing a trade in yet but then decide to trade in my old phone a week later for credit if I decide to ?

think its worth trying to have waived 14PM activation fee, with 12 pro bill credits still on the line?

or too risky?

I will on the other line that is getting 14PM and has no credits for anything / is a line without any extra catches but..

could be; not sure. You need to stay current on plan to get full monthly credits. Three years is a long time.
It is 36 months. You lose those credits if you upgrade early. Which is fine, you do save some $$, but not a lot. So you need to want that phone for 3 years (as many do.)

I don't. hat's why I finally left AT&T Next Up and went with the iPhone Upgrade Program through Apple & Citizens One. Fairly seamless and can upgrade yearly.
