How do you copy the lossless songs over? On my iPod it only ever allows me to copy them over when I set it to compress them first (bringing them to 256). There’s definitely a difference in my car.
I manage the music manually, and have the auto compression turned off. I haven't had any problems just dragging ALAC files to the iPod.

I have a 7th Generation, originally 160GB, updated with an iFlash Quad to 1.2TB. Currently happily runs with just under 48,000 Apple Lossless songs. I recently decided to replace the battery with the big 3000mAh version. There is a seller on Ebay who sells the battery complete with deeper case back, hold switch and headphone socket. The combination was only $30 shipped from China. It's a good way of making sure everything fits. The case back also comes engraved with bigger capacities, mine says '1TB'.

Mind sharing a photo of that beauty? :)

As I understand it, it is a genuine case back from one of the thicker models, with altered engraving. The previous back from my 7th generation is around 9mm deep, the new one around 12mm:

But you can see that the front case is kind of bent.

Yes, I've taken it apart several times, so it has suffered a little...

I thought it was due to the battery being too big. I've seen that very often when it comes to modding the iPod Classic.

No, the battery doesn't reach the top of the case. It is wider so fits below the headphone connector. There is no problem accommodating the thickness at all.

So about month or so ago I purchased a modded iPod Classic from eBay on a whim. Initially I felt a tinge of buyer's remorse because despite being a huge iPod fan and music enthusiast, I can more than manage with just my phone.

While the iPod Classic is not my main device, I've come to really enjoy using it in specific situations. I often use it for a listening session before bed or when I am listening to music and nothing else (as opposed to using it for background music). I will sometimes use it when I'm working, but I usually use my AirPod Pros and iPhone to block out noise.

I enjoy using it.

Sorry to revive an old thread 😇 My day to day ipod was a 7th gen 160gb, until I found a 4th gen photo. I love the dac on this one. Folowing the purchase of the 4th gen, I also found localy a 5.5 gen. I ordered the whole shebang to fix and upgrade both ( iflash, case, clickwheel, hp jack, battery, sd cards).

I still use ipods because I dont want to be tethered to wifi, I love headphones jack, battery life is great, no advert, social media, message text, or my boss calling. I still buy music, and I love to own and sort my library.

When I want to listen to, lets say, ‘A state of trance - episode 450’ from 10 years ago, my ipod is ready to rock booyah! 😁

So my iPod Classic isn't my main listening device, but I've developed a routine. I recreated my old nested smart playlist structure using the attached guide and I've been using the iPod Classic to listen to my music at night before bed when I want to disconnect and also one weekends when I'm just listening to music outside or something and not actively working or doing something else.

I've got a second gen iPod with touch wheel from 2002. I use a megadongle to sync: USB-C to Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt to Firewire 800, Firewire 800 to Firewire 400. It isn't in bad shape, but it isn't pristine either. I got it on ebay for the old schoolness factor. It holds a whopping 5GB.
I enjoy using it when I study in my office. I'm a pastor, and the nostalgia takes me back to when I was in my 20s, working 3rd shift in 2003, and my first iPod and first mac, a 12" Powerbook G4.

Not quite as convenient as my Airpods Pro and iPhone 12 Pro... but it takes me back to when life was simpler.

Will try to post a pic during the work break. Would also like to make a video for my YouTube channel of my experience buying an iPod that old to work with a new computer, but shall see if I have time.

Jethro!, here's pics of the mega-dongle that allows an M1 Air to work with an almost 20 year old iPod. Amazing :)

Side note: this is actually a backup iPod. For some reason, it will work with the Finder, but Music will not sync. My "main" old iPod does work. I bought a lot of 4 old iPods with the touch wheel. Ended up one had no hard drive and a busted FW port, one of them will work if I swap a HD that has music on it but the iPod itself will not show on the Mac so must be a logic board problem I guess. The two "good" ones are this one that semi works and one that works as it should. So long story short, the iPod has a firewire cable, that goes to a firewire 400 to 800 adapter, that goes to an 800 to thunderbolt adapter, and finally the thunderbolt to usb-c adapter that plugs into the M1.

Wow so does that cable sync AND charge?? Even though this is a monster cable, it would be easy to carry those as interchagable dongles anyway.

I have a 3rd gen that serves me the same purpose: bringing me back to college days when I manned the auditorium AV during my workstudy shifts...

This is my daily Driver iPod but funny enough I use it a lot as a portable drive. It is a silver and black, iflash modded 1tb 7th Gen. i just went for it when I modded it. It’s a pleasure to use and is currently full of ambient, chill-fi and instrumentals on shuffle for bed. 5EF89E2B-421B-42B2-8872-A2198C30B75B.jpeg 6BC375DE-93A1-4FE2-9DC5-660E81964EC5.jpeg F02AEB83-1BF6-43E4-BDAF-E7A37577880F.jpeg
