Flawless install of 16.04 alongside Leopard on an iMac G5 2.0GHz ALS
I added cairo-dock from the package manager - however it crashes - is there a recommendation for another dock that works please?
Cheers
Hugh
Thank you - I'll have a go in the morning as it's after midnight here.8 MacOS Like Docks for Ubuntu
You might not be running macOS but you’re a GNU/Linux user so you have the option to switch your style up and make your app launcher similar to the dock on macOS.www.fossmint.com
I would start with docky. It's pretty popular.
Plank is another popular one.

I think I've used Plank before a while ago, but the reason I installed cairo-dock is that I have it in my Mint install on the MacBook.Plank is another popular one.

I found mate, xfce, and even lxde too heavy for my g4 mini. Icewm is perfect. Needs a little configuration and customization but it's worth it. Boots to desktop using only 98mb ram.

Docky and Plank work nicely thanks, but after a re-install Cairo is working fine as wellThank you - I'll have a go in the morning as it's after midnight here.

Another issue Ive been having is when using Artic Fox looking at MacRumors on every page I have to wait for a 'unresponsive script' message to appear..so I can stop it before being able to scroll down the page.
Know this is rather off topic but if someone knows a quick fix Id be thankful.
Ok, so i just tested it on ubuntu12. You'll need to delete a few files inside the ~/.icewm directory once you copy it over, otherwise the menu will be missing, and logout won't work. After deleting these files and using the defaults it's fine.

Delete everything except the /themes directory and the startup script so it looks like the pane on the left.

Ah yeah the nm-applet was a typo on my part. It's part of network-manager-gnome, so sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome. That package includes nm-applet.
Are you familiar with midnight commander at all? It's preinstalled. Open a terminal and type mc . You'll see a 2 pane text based file manager. Navigate with arrow keys and hit enter to move into directories. The tab key jumps you from left to right pane and vise versa. Navigate to the directory you extracted the Remix theme. Highlight the .icewm directory and hit F5 (or esc + 5 if you dont have function keys, or click the lower 5copy with mouse) to copy that directory to your ~/ directory. See screenshot below:

Now do the same for .conkyrc. Highlight it, hit esc+5 to copy it to ~/
Now close everything and log out, then log back in. Everything should be good now.
Also if you want extra desktop icons, again use mc. In the left pane scroll down to /Desktop and hit enter. Now hit TAB to switch panes. Navigate to /usr/share/applications/ and just copy any .desktop file you want displayed on your desktop.

As for arcticfox that seems strange. I'm actually on Ubuntu12 right now using it without issue. Here's another browser i built for ubuntu12. Give it a shot. https://drive.google.com/file/d/132...taF3CYmLjos8aYe92rBgWLJgXOz-ACQvc361uEOhVzAvs
Also if you want ad-blocking in your browsers do this:
sudo cp /etc/hosts.deny /etc/hosts to enable the adblocking hosts file.

On my own environments (utilizing a mixture of other browsers), I've commonly seen that message disappear after installing foxPEP - and then reappear after uninstalling. For whatever reason that may be.
If doing that doesn't solve this annoyance, feel free to remove it ...
