I will be purchasing my first Apple desktop as soon as they update the Mini. I am just hoping for a step up in the graphics and maybe a faster/bigger hard drive. These are just going to be icing on the cake. I would have purchased as soon as I had it in my budget but I like to hold off until second revisions :D

new 17" display???

That being said, I wouldn't mind them updating the mac mini so they could discontinue the eMac. Personally I find it to be quite unattractive and kind of the black sheep of Apple's Computer line currently. With reduced iMac Prices especially, they could probably just make one lower end model of the iMac for the 999 dollar price tag found on the high end eMac currently, update the mac mini without fear of it crippling eMac sales (which I personally think it has when launched and currently still may be even following the update). Beyond that, making a affordable monitor for Mac Mini purchasors, maybe 17" CRTs like found on the eMac for cheap, or just a smaller ACD for under 500 dollars (rather then 700 for the 20", nice price and monitor but still too rich for my blood. I settle with a 17" flatscreen for less than half the price... Not as nice but nice enough, and mac mini's should be the same. Not as nice as iMac's but plenty nice enough!) Now if only apple had a monitor with that mac mini attitude (Apple Cinema Display Mini? 15 or 17" for under 350-400, I'd buy one!). Don't kill me for saying it, but I'd personally like to see a update Mac Mini so they could discontinue the eMac, another lower end lower price iMac for close to 1000 dollars, and if people want a sub-1000 dollar mac they can either get a Mac Mini with a bunch of CTO or a base model low-end iMac. Either way they'd be better then most windows-based PCs right? Right! IMHO, Ryan.

Entropyjosh - those monitors do look 17"-ish and very sweet! If there released with the update, this update will be awesome in more ways then one! Cool find, and I hope you/think-secret/etc. are right on this, that would be nice because I am having a hard time justifying a $700 monitor for a 500-600 dollar computer. I mean together you might as well get a iMac for that price. But a cheap(er) 17" ACD that's a little less than the mac mini (as in under 500) would be both smart and much appreciated in my opinion. Here's me crossing my fingers for it!

It almost looks too big to be the 20". Looks like it's the 23". Maybe my eyes are off. That's sure not a 17" though.

One of the two isn't it, definitly not a 17in display as the xserve raid next to it is 4u or bigger from memory.

It's up now... although I don't know how long it was between our posts :)

My theory is that the updates won't happen until *stock* iBooks get 5-7 days shipping, like what happened to the mac mini. IMO Apple will update both products at the same time... so if the stock ibook's shipping increases, that could be a sign of an update soon!

Honestly I was thinking the same :( . However, wishful thinking is what gets me through the day :D

more good news

http://appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1190

Yee-uh. That's what I'm talkin bout.

So now my question is... do I go for the overstock if they can give us a really good price, or do I wait for the soon-to-be-released new minis? I'm still thinkin' the latter (I've waited this long for a better mini, after all), but I just got a ridiculously great deal on a some wireless networking hardware over at overstock, so I'm tempted...

I am going to hold out until the update. Just because I have waited this long already ( also I would like to see a better gfx chip). But if the current model will suit yah then i would go ahead and go with overstock. Becuase some of their deals are hard to pass up.

I hadn't even heard of overstock.com until now. The wife and I continue to wait for a mac mini update. After using a 32mb vid card on my 12" powerbook for the last year and a half, I won't be buying another machine with one, especially seeing as we both do a lot of graphics work. That and the crap 4200rpm drive.

Well for me, the important thing about the Appleinsider article remains the fact that if the Mini is moving to Overstock, then, just as happened with the iPod updates a few weeks ago, an update must be imminent.

More Good News! Best Buy (in Canada) is having a Grand-Opening Sale. They have dropped the price of the 1.25 GHz Mini down $130!

I just checked the online store. It still states the Mini as 5-7 days shipping times. However, when you bump up the memory or any other option it reamains at 5-7 days. I believe we are not far off from an update.

Look to the left of the 20 or 23" monitor...on the table directly behind the x-serve you will see a teeny tiny mac mini...could it be that entropyjosh was refering to the 17" monitor next to it in the background???

Just wondering?!?

Sounds like a mini update is in the works.... as to when and what, that's still unknown. But price drops (as long as they are not temporary, which Apple products never seem to have "sales") seem to indicate that they need to close out the current model to make way for the new model (the iPods did this with MacMall and other places when the new color 20gb came out).

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That looks suprising like the back of a Dell UltraSharp to me... can't tell what size, but that's what the xx05 models look like from the back.

The xx05 Series of monitors have silver bases. The back also is smoother (less square) and has a huge DELL logo on it.

Hmm, Best Buy in US still has the regular prices, and the mac mini isn't on ovestock.com yet.

But I think that when the stock ibooks reach 5-7 days in US store, that's the final sign that an update will happen very, very soon! :D
