could one say that itunes 4.9 will come out around the same time that 10.4.2 comes out? are would you say that those are two totally separate different things

I would say that Mac OS X 10.4.2 and ITunes 4.9 are two different things. It still could be possible that they could come out around the same time. The release timing will happen when development is completed.

hmmm... really? thats quite interesting... maybe the final box version of tiger will have that version number.. 10.4.2... but then one has to think that the previous versions were what? not good enough for a boxed version? tiger was rushed! *gasp*

That is still very encouraging news. We could actually be able to download Mac OS 10.4.2 on Thursday. Hopefully this update will fix the bugs that have been posted about.

I hope so. My mother is bringing her iBook to be upgraded to Tiger when she comes to visit this weekend (not confident doing it herself!) and it would be good to have it all up-to-date before she leaves on Monday.

My copy is supposed to be here on the 15th according to UPS. It was ordered the 10th, so I guess I will know then.

Sadly, Tiger arrived today (12 days to ship becomes 2 somehow...grin) and aside from the fact that Spotlight is the best thing ever, the disc was a 10.4 regular DVD, not the 10.4.2

Well, if it's 10.4, just download the updates. Apple will probably just tell you the same thing if you call.

Umm, yeah.
You can get the updates for free using Software Update. Whatever.

Your disc probably will *not* actually have 10.4.2. That is just the latest version Apple is now marketing and licensing.

What if there are no discs with 10.4.2? What is a phone call to Apple going to do?

Well, that explains the delay.

I had my hopes falsely up for the past couple of days since folks were reporting a shipping version of .2

Looks like Apple is still banging out bugs.

This makes me very happy. I really hope .2 is a solid release of Tiger and the major, nasty bugs are gone.

Ya mean like the Tiger release (and Panther) on a Friday? Software updates come out when they're ready, at least in Apple's opinion. These aren't record or movie releases.
