Yes agreed @Honza1, there's sort of 2 things at play here. 1 is how accurate the %'age battery health estimates are in the first place. And then assuming the numbers are accurate (or close to accurate), how to keep the batteries at higher health levels for longer.

FWIW, my 14" M1 MBP (pre-ordered but didn't get until a few weeks after launch date as I ordered about an hour after it became available for sale, and I had a BTO 32GB / 1TB) is around 1.5yrs old. I don't use it that much given I have a separate work laptop. But I use it as a mix of closed clamshell into dock / external monitor, as well as "like a laptop" on battery. Whenever I'm not using it, I unplug it.

Currently at 96% Health / 63 cycles.

Got my MBP M1Pro back in October 2021 (so about 500 something days old) and the capacity is so low already?!
I do not strain it. What am I doing wrong??

500 days?

Then that's within design specs. Apple states 2 years or 1000 cycles to be => 80% capacity. If you get AppleCare+ they'll push that to 3 years or indefinitely if you do the monthly? I think?

Battery wear will level off. It shouldn't continue to drain faster as it drops, it'll go much slower.

Those of us that do better health wise are using our laptops as desktops and not putting cycles on our laptops - and/or using things like AlDente or Apple's Battery Health to keep the charge % down too.

Not doing anything wrong - you're using a tool and getting good use out of it.

Compare online with other batteries of the same type. To compare on line, open History in CoconutBattery and select the batter. Then button is on the right hand side of this History viewer.
I have different device, but average on my 16inch MBP with 220 cycles is around 89% health. Your 86% is not that much off, so this looks more or less normal.

Is it safe to use sailing mode all the time? Keep in mind that I am always plugged in. I used mechanical keyboard and mouse, that is pretty much why I am always plugged in.

November 2021; using Al Dente from the start, keeping 60-70% charge; mostly at home.

Got my 16" M1 Max MBP (32GB/1TB) on launch day. Battery manufacture date is 2021-09-13 and capacity is at 98.4%. Cycle count is 16.

Primarily used plugged in with Al Dente set to 80%.

I didn't know Aldente and I am using it from now on seeing the degradation of my battery, my fault for using it all day connected to 100%.

Question: those who use with a percentage interval, for example, 70-80%, does that mean that when they reach 80% they disconnect it, or nothing happens if it is left at that percentage and it is always connected? Thank you.

I have used AlDente for years - back when it was a GitHub project.

I leave my device plugged in all month long (I work remote). I set the charging between 60-70%. Sometimes I'll drain it to 50% and sometimes I'll charge it to 90% and then tell it to drain (while plugged in) - via AlDente back to 60% - just to keep the battery "exercised" - sailing mode negates the need to do this (but I don't use Sailing mode).

So yeah that's the beauty of AlDente - you can set the max charge level (say 60%) then it runs off of wall power - not touching battery. :D

WOW I'm hoping my 16' MBP looks like that in 5.5 more years! :p I'd be proud of that.

AlDente? And/Or just really kind to it?
Neither! No abuse, that's all. Careful with avoiding heat, but I've charged it to 100% every time. I use it to screen share with a tv through HDMI and that kills the battery so I use it plugged in for that, but as soon as I finish using it I unplug it. It has stayed plugged in for several hours at a time, but never all day. Pretty much the only precaution I've ever taken with it. I haven't used it much throughout its lifetime, though. The very low cycle count definitely shows that.

Battery life on El Cap is astonishing! Obviously it isn't as massively efficient as the Apple Silicon Macs but for a 2015 MacBook Pro I think this looks great:

im trying to drain the battery under 80% life to get a new one in a year. seems its harder with these new Macs.

Battery capacity estimates / battery chemistry is not an exact science. stop worrying about it until it is noticeably degraded.

My 14 was bought on week of release and is on 93%.

Bought my M1 MBP in March 22. System says 100% with 103 cycles done. Have used Al Dente Pro since I got it.

I use CleanMyMac and that battery health report says it's 98%.

My MBP is mostly plugged into my ASD for work and personal use. I travel about 3 times per month for business and take the MBP with me.
