Interesting. I must call State Farm to ask about this.

I live in Sweden though, might be different in the states. The whole reason for my post was for people to check if they had this avaliable for them, since most of my friends had no idea this existed.

I think it costs an extra 5 or so dollars for me to get the accidental damage thing, the theft thing is standard for my insurance company.

i say no. on my laptop, ipod touch, and nano i have never bought a warranty. i think that the money i put towards the warranty i could use that money to buy a new laptop anyways. My ipod touch is running perfect 2 years later and im on 3 years with my laptop. Only had 1 year manufacture warranty. Only warranty i had was my jawbone icon blue tooth headset. It was only 10 bucks. that way i can get a new blue tooth every year with out paying for it. LOL. other wise no warranty for me. i take good care of my electronics. My tv, dvd player, harman/kardon speakers. no warranty. i would never spill on a $600 item. I would never drop it. Or lose it. In fact i take my itouch everywhere with me. As soon as the 3G Ipad comes out No warranty for me.

Just a headsup, use code: Tax2010 To save 35% ($40 off max)
:D

Well...

I'd received clearance from the wife to get the warranty today, but now it looks like the TAX2010 coupon code no longer works.

I would have bought at $79.99, but $95.99 puts it near the tipping point for me and I will probably not get it. :(
Looks like I waited 24 hours too long.

wait

Wait a couple days, setup an alert or just watch this thread. It has come and gone now three times in the past 10 days.

30 or 90

don't you have 90 days to activiate, or is it 30 days?

If it is 30 days, we certainly might see another deal come in the next 2.5 weeks.

There again... I think I read on this thread that they count from the time you ordered it. When did preorders go online? Wasn't it March 12th, which might put me out of the time frame anyway...

Maybe I should email them....

What is the likelihood that the iPad is going to be damaged? Are you in the construction industry and taking it into the field? For normal use I wouldn't bother with either. After 2 years there will be a much better iPad available and you should opt for that instead of getting a refurbished 1st generation unit.

I actually purchased a 3G warranty under their 35% off code last week and I had the same questions about when things start. I opened a support ticket and asked about it since they're specifying WiFi+3G warranties for sale prior to the release. Here is the reply:

Thank you for contacting SquareTrade.

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Please note that in case of pre-order we start our coverage as per the date written on your item purchase receipt as order date.

Generally in case of pre-order seller or merchant charge you when they deliver the product if this is the case you can always give us a call or email us the correct date so that we can make required changes on your account.

Furthermore, for a retail-purchased item, we'll need a copy of your purchase receipt before we can approve any claim you might file with us. You can submit a copy of your receipt at any time after purchasing your Care Plan.

To submit your receipt after purchase, please follow these steps:

1. Go to http://www.squaretrade.com.

2. Click sign in at the top of the page.

3. Log in using your email and password. If this is your first time registering or you've forgotten your password, click Create a Login and follow the directions.

4. Click on Manage My Warranties.

5. Under "Active Warranties", locate and select the warranty for which you need to submit the receipt.

6. Under "Quick Links" on the right, click Manage my receipt for specific instructions for faxing or emailing the receipt.

Once we receive your receipt we'll attach it to your warranty so it will be ready in the event you need to file a claim.

Hope that answers your question! If not, go here to view the contract summary. You can also reply to this email or call 1-877-WARRANTY (1-877-927-7268) US & Canada only, 24/7.

Thank you,

Jason

My order was placed on the first date available to order. My case invoice has the invoice date of April 2. So, my iPad invoice date would have whatever day they actually charge my card. The invoice has both the order date and the invoice date. As the support requests notes, I will have to get them to change the date once it finally ships.

if you paid with an american express card, you already get a 2nd year of warranty coverage for free via american express. You also get 90 days of theft/loss coverage from amex.

If you paid for it with a credit card, many credit cards offer perks such as extended warranties if the manufacturer's warranty is just a year. Taking a look at my cards, I can see at least AmEx and Mastercard offer this. So your one year warranty turns into 2.

i don't need an extended warranty. it is covered for a year and version 2 will likely be released in a year so I will be selling my current and getting that one anyhow.

I won't be buying it. This is why I have renter's insurance.

your renters deductible is most likely 5X the price of this, AND many policy holders are holding it against home owners/renters now if they trigger a policy request - in the form of higher rates after 1 yr.

YMMV but the reason to get a policy like this, for 79$ IMHO is cheap since it totally replaces the device if it breaks, gets broken, etc.

which company is that, I would like that. A renters policy with 0$ deductible on broken items of any value, please let us know so we can sign up. I certainly will.

I'm as skeptical as you are. Plus any claims go into the uniform insurance database that all companies use and affect your future rates or ability to change policies. Is not spending $80 on an iPad extended warranty worth potentially screwing up future attempts to get homeowner's insurance at a reasonable rate?

there is a thread over on SD that has a lot of details from people who have triggered their ST insurance on OTHER items, nobody with ipads yet at least.

BTW, here's your new coupon code for today, doesn't seem to be JUST today

IPAD25IPAD

p.s. I don't work for ST or anyone like them, just passing on info and codes here.
