This is probably impossible, but I would like to see some sort of Time Machine app, where you can go back in time and interact with things virtually. Like going into a Blockbuster store and picking a movie off the shelf.
It definitely is possible but would need a big and dedicated team to create it. Depending on the scale and number of time periods it would cover.

I think a small immersive experience per time period would be cool. For example you could go to the 90s in a blockbuster store, the Victorian era, or back to ancient Rome and each would be its own experience. Nothing major, but definitely enough to create an enjoyable and historically accurate experience.

I'd love to see what an ancient roman villa actually looked like, for example.

Picking a movie at Blockbuster wasn’t the awesome joy-ride a lot of people think it was.
Yup. Insofar as it may have been enjoyed, that was primarily because there wasn't an alternative, and because you did it with other people as a make-do social activity ... which is obviated by encapsulating the experience as an AR app. "Hey, let's all put on our $3500 masks and link up in a virtual Blockbuster to pick a shared video the hardest way possible!"

Ragging on the original point aside, there may be an oddly interesting category of recreating historical contexts (Blockbuster included), letting people experience for themselves what was common & cultural - and gone now for reasons.

I suppose if The Backrooms can be a hit creating creepy liminal spaces, recreating old stores & experiences might have a following. Key is availability: making it easy to invoke the VR space (better if it auto-fills actual arbitrary space for AR) may induce developers to create & share Blockbuster VR et al.

Yeah, the idea was re-creating historical experiences, so more of a "Back to the Future" kind of a thing, which was the point I was attempting to get across. The Blockbuster scene popped into my head first (and probably wasn't the best example), but you could go decades and centuries back in time with different scenarios.

As I clearly said, it isn’t ideal — but it may move the needle enough for someone to deal with issues without using destructive substances. Is taking some prescription drugs dealing with problems? Taking drugs, alcohol, watching tv by yourself, playing games? None of these are solutions, but for some people, in some situations, they may help.
The Vision Pro isn't any more inherently anti-social than reading a book is.
A lot of it just comes down to what activities you replace with VR.

If someone is playing Beat Saber instead of sitting on a couch holding a gamepad, it's a net benefit to health.
If someone is watching a movie in a VR theater with friends in different country instead of watching a movie on a tablet alone, that is a more social experience.

And I can think of some novel applications that could make AR more fun when multiple household members have them. You could have a shared app where one person could attach a photo or artwork to the real world, and when the other person puts on their headset, they'll see the photo in the same place.

I think there's more of an appearance of increased isolation—because it covers your eyes—than any actual increase in isolation.

golf and flight simulation, not new ideas, but still waiting to see how companies execute on them
Flight sims mostly suck outside of IFR training, and at that point visuals arnt really that important outside of a circling approach

Still think porn and Nintendo wee style games are the only places this device will make any sense

I agree, but I am hoping the AVP brings something new to the table. Just trying to be optimistic...

I like the ideas. Unfortunately most people like to shoot down everything in these forums and not contribute anything on their own like they are the next Steve Jobs.

I like lots of apple products

Per the ski googles, if you’re into porn or Nintendo wee style games it probably would be great 🤷‍♂️

A lot of people tend to be either of the extremes when it comes to new technology like this—naively accepting or naively distrusting. Both are naive and are quick to make assumptions. Anyone who sees only good things and cannot sincerely acknowledge any bad potential, or sees only bad things and cannot sincerely acknowledge any good potential, is not objective or thoughtful.

There has been rumours of a cut down version of macOS that would run on an iPad as I think a sort of VM, if that ever comes true - that is what I would expect for Vision Pro to. (i.e. basically the UI layer running as a service/app on iPad). I would not expect to run macOS apps themselves except in something like that. It is a long shot though - i.e. I don't know how much veracity it has. However, it would match what I see as a path to merging the iPadOS and macOS platforms - just one more step... then ... announcing a middle device that is both touch and a desktop depending on how you use it. (i.e. if I see it happen I would be 100% sure of the merge strategy, right now I am at around 70 to 75% sure)
so basically a chromebook

I’d like an app that explains to the average person (not a huge tech nerd like most of us) what the point of it is and tell them why they should spend 10x more on it than other headsets that they will inevitably get tired of also.……

That or Beat Saber would be cool.

Because Quest3 is a risky product to buy. If Meta abandons VR/AR, their headsets will become useless as developers won’t produce apps for it. Vision Pro on the other hand, will be part of an existing eco-system of apps and devices. Therefore, it’s less of a risky purchase as use cases span media consumption, computing and as an external monitor for your mac.

OK, so this is a BIG one that's going to take a lot of work but it's going to be something that could really be a giant thing in the future.
Virtual People/Friends/Family.

Imagine your home, it is of course all mapped in 3D by your headset.
You can then have virtual people in your home, they will of course be powered by a form of AI to give them "life"
When wearing the headset, they will freely walk around your home, interacting with items.
Sitting on the sofa with your, watching TV with you.
You can have discussions with them, talk about their day, they will ask about your day.
You will build up relationships with them.

In time, they could even be family members which are no longer around, AI taking in all the data from a loved one, who you can still have with you.
Imagine a very elderly person who's lifelong partner has died, and they face the next 5 - 10 years being alone missing their single love, and being able to still see and talk to a representation of them instead of sitting there alone every dat.

Naturally with an Artificial person/s with you, you can imagine any possibility.

So there, Virtual Humans in your AR home.
Absolutely horrifying.

I like VR for some social interactions like watching a movie together or simply chatting or playing a game. VR works great for this when a friend/family is a long distance away. A good friend of mine moved a couple thousand km's away, VR (Quest 2) has made it simple and easy to do some of these things and in a more natural way then FaceTime. Our friends group all have the Quest 2 so can get together for a movie in BigScreen. Spacial audio gives a sense of them being present all while a goofy avatar destroys it at the same time. Still the ability to watch a movie together while chatting like you would be if sitting on the couch, because no one of course chats in a movie theatre. Same for some games, not a huge gamer but RecRoom has enough of these goofy questions that are a lot of fun as a group.

I think AR is where things need to head and will be more where Apple is heading as seen by their release video. I can imagine one day going to the office, no laptop in tow instead a headset. Get to my desk, no computers in site, just a mouse and keyboard for that tactile need. Put the goggles on and up comes my setup with multi monitors, apps, files, etc. I like even more if others can see each others virtual space in an office environment so it is more expansive and less isolating.

A Virtual iPhone.

Apple will in the future sell you an Apple branded slab of wood with a special code chip built into it.
Then, when wearing the Vision Pro, this slab of wood will look like, and function like the latest iPhone.
Just think of all the Money Apple can save, by selling you a bit of wood each year which turns into the latest virtual iPhone when wearing the headset ;)

I'm not sure how practical this would be. I'd actually really like to use this as a workout device. Assuming it's at least somewhat friendly to air circulation and won't immediately break when sweat hits it.

I think it would be really cool to put this on, my treadmill or exercise bike stays in view, but my surroundings completely change. Instead of staring at my boring wall, I'll be running through a forest or on the moon or something - hopefully it can connect to the Apple Watch and track my speed as well.

Even if it's just Fitness+, I can imagine an app where I'm "in" their studio, if I turn around, I'll see avatars of other people also in this same video/group. Maybe their burn bar is above their head. I suppose this idea might work better if Fitness+ ever started to include live classes.

Shadow boxing my friend online? Etc

It works really well on Quest. Really fun and definitely a good workout depending on the app.

It feels like HIIT especially with games like Blaston because the rounds are short but very active. Then you rest while you wait for the next round and so on.

But the issue with the Vision Pro is that I think Apple wants to wait until it get lighter and slimmer for more active use cases. I believe there's a built-in warning if you move too fast, but how fast I'm not sure.

Though you're totally right. Big potential for workouts with the Vision and integration with Fitness+ and even Apple Watch.

And I imagine a future where Vision integrates with the Watch and maybe future fitness accessories that track body form. So Fitness+ can act as a virtual trainer, and ensure you're performing the workout correctly and safely.

To be fair the MQ3 runs Android which means that if Meta did drop it, it could be very easily jailbroken and hacked to pieces by a continuing hobbyist community.
