Struck by covid so I've been watching a lot of Burn Notice. I'd been slowly going through it prior but binged it the past 3 days and really shocked at the massive change in the direction of the show in S5. S1~4 was a lot of fun, but from S5 it turns way too dramatic and they
and change the show significantly. It's become overwrought melodrama and I think I'm going to stop watching. First 4 seasons were a lot of fun though!

The "Blue Sky" shows that aired on USA were fun, until they weren't.
(the one referenced by my avatar was a break from that genre for the network)

I made it to the end of Burn Notice, but dropped Suits when it, too, lost one of the original premises, and turned into a soap opera, mostly consisting of scenes of people angrily talking at each other, peppered with utterances of "BS" to make it seem edgy. Dun dun dun! And the Lewis Litt character was never meant to be taken in such high dosage as was pushed later. But, given its newfound smash popularity in the streaming afterlife, I guess that's what a lot of people like.

I've got some long flights coming up, and been thinking about what I'm going to load on the iPad, with the expectation that the in-flight entertainment offerings will be lacking.

I like that show.

Picked up ‘Hinterland’ - an Acorn TV dvd collection of the British tv series - via BBC Canada Shop a while ago, and have now viewed several episodes of the series.

Slow, evolving, suspenseful, up-close and personal detective police dramas. Engaging scenarios, and environment views — all contributing so well to the various moods.

For me, the British certainly know how to craft police dramas, and murder mysteries. This series is a combination of the two I have sure been glad to have chosen, and have on hand to view when in the mood for such drama.

Working my way through The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie, clever stuff. Film was good too.

Started with Three Body Problem, never read the books, but, I did see they have a HUGELY dedicated fanbase who were praying the series is good.

Just finished watching it, in a select few places it lacked, but overall a great watch, interesting story. And the effects are VERY high value! The destruction of a particular ship is most impressive.

And I only just realised the producers include THE Brad Pitt and Rosamund Pike! About 28 producers in total for the series. I really hope Netflix green light a second series. Depends on how successful this first one is of course.

Theirs one scene where it shows the world leaders including Biden and Sunak and you look at them and just think, if an alien race was heading towards us to destroy us with them in charge we truly would be f*****!

I’m really enjoying it too. Started the book when it came out but just drifted away from it and didn’t pick it back up again so wasn’t sure I’d last more than an episode.

In some ways it sort of reminds me of the late 70s Quatermass series or some of the good Doctor Who’s of that time albeit with a really good budget, better characters and impressive CGI. Goodness knows how many render farms they used!

Finally something decent in Netflix!

It is annoying that so many Netflix shows now feature casual swearing at a very high rate. There is not even any passion in it. It doesn't enhance the dialog or advance the show. Yes, it's appropriate if someone starts shooting at you, but not in casual conversation.

The Night Agent is another culprit. The amount of swearing going on in the White House is, literally, unbelievable. I have worked in the offices of Ministers and Prime Ministers. If anybody started speaking like that they would be escorted from the building.

I find I am conflicted watching the Netflix version of Three Body Problem. I find the Chinese version truer to the book, although it had its own production problems. The early (in the book) scenes of the Cultural Revolution have apparently been moved to the middle of the series* so that the audience isn't turned off the series too soon.

* I haven't got there yet, just read about it.

I was very disappointed with this 3 Body Problem show. Indeed, lots of useless swearing, is it a lack of actors being able to learn lines? Too much family drama or pathos. The guy with cancer for instance: what’s the point of showing that and over and over? I mean if I had cancer, I don’t think I’d want someone suffering like me on TV. And for the people that don’t have cancer, how does it serves the audience? What am I suppose to feel? I’m too lucky I don’t have cancer & should pity the guy? Just die already.

Every sci-fi show is always about the same tropes: human bad, aliens too but worst. What a lack of originality. I would not recommend watching it.

Instead, watch Tokyo Vice, The Gentlemen, Shōgun, yes it has nothing to do with the aforementioned show but you wont feel you wasted 8 hours of your life.

And don’t let me get started on the cast, OMG, that Mexican girl has only 2 reactions: open or close mouth. I’m so angry at this show. HAAA SCREAM OF AGONY. 😡

It's the #2 series on Netflix as of today. So the fan response is great!!!

Pondering The Three (3) Body Problem.
Been reading the books while wading (slowly) through the TV series (both, the Chinese and Netflix).
It's not a 3 body problem, it's a 4 body problem, the three stars and the planet of the Trisolarians. I know the gravitational mass of the planet is not enough to seriously affect the movement of the three stars, but they are living on the planet, and it will be moving through the system even more chaotically than the stars.
