After a dry spell anime-wise, just started a couple of weeks ago an anime "Solo Levelling" which is based on a manwha (Korean manga) of the same name. Fairly typical action (shonen or whatever the Korean version is) but well-executed - starts slow but builds up as the protagonist uncovers his power. Even though a Korean title, a Japanese studio made it and the soundtrack is provided by the Japanese composer Hiroyuki Sawano who worked on Attack on Titan. Opening song is done with a Korean boy group "Tomorrow X Together" (no really).

The Korean moviemakers are producing great works, not necessarily in manga and anime shows, but in love, sci-fi, fantasy, and other dramas. My wife and I seldom watch any shows produced in the US, Europe, and Australia, except for a very few. It seems that in every show there has to be a great portion of explicit or crude and even violent sex. Korean shows could be violent, but most times such things are implied instead of acted. My wife would not watch anything that is excessively violent, nor crude nudity, but we are older now. Maybe we prefer more quality works? :)

Anyway, I enjoy anime like the one you mention above, some which are shown at Netflix and "viki.com," while my wife is watching two Korean shows (dramas): Netflix- Captivating The King, and in "viki.com", the last episode of, The Red Sleeve.

My wife loves The Blacklist, and Monk too :)
As a series, The Blacklist was pretty good... it had some slow spots and got sideways a time or two... but loved James Spader in it...

I've tried to watch Monk several times, and just can't do it... strangely, I do like Tony Shaloub... he was great in Taxi and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

Oh yes, I mean Squid Game really took the world by storm and there are a lot of quality Korean series and films coming out now, I think I will check out the ones you mentioned here.

😀 It is the same for me about Monk (I don't like it very much), but my wife loves the Monk series. We also like sci-fi, and enjoyed all the seasons of Fringe, and to a lesser degree a Korean show in Netflix titled, Sisyphus. There was an excellent Korean drama at Netflix that I enjoyed because of the special effects. It was about a person who created a virtual reality game, and because of a glitch in the program the virtual and reality would become one, with deadly results. This show is titled, Memories Of The Alhambra. It ends well enough, but with a somewhat cliffhanger. My wife did not watch this show since she isn't into games, nor anime, like I am into. But there are some amazing special effects in this show.

Nice and sweet or clean anime that I enjoyed at Netflix:
My happy marriage
Kuroko's basketball
Violet Evergarden (re-edited)
Forest Of Piano (piano music, and a poor kid who ended up being the strongest player/competitor)
Love Death + Robots (this is some "crazy" show that my wife would not like, but I found it interesting)

Netflix has a large number of real good Korean shows, and so "viki.com"

Has anyone any thoughts on Masters of the Air?
Re-subbed to Apple to watch it. Have been looking forward to it for a while.

However, to my mind it's a real curates egg. A lot of it is good but the bad bits colour the whole thing - overall a disappointment. I've got halfway through ep 6 and am probably going to give up on it. I really enjoyed the in-plane preparation scenes, the take offs etc. The air stuff was a real mix, some good some felt like a computer game. While it followed the 100ths campaign as it was, I thought (and your YMMV with this) that unlike say, Band of Brothers there was a heavy handed spin put on it all.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

What are "the bad bits"?

In what way was there "a heavy handed spin put on it all"?

I have read the book Masters of the Air (whereas I didn't read Band of Brothers until after I had watched the series), but have yet to see the TV series.

Just from the show's trailer I felt like it looked really cheesy as well... I'm sure the book is much better.

Hmmm I have been disenchanted with historical dramas especially WWII as of late. Too much lazy use of special effects, too much myth-making as well. Exceptions like the film Dunkirk really stand out. There are other very good historical dramas - Rome at the top of the list - and some other look intriguing. The new series on Disney plus - Shogun - looks interesting and I believe it might be based on the famous novel like the 1970s series. We'll see.

I think the bombing campaign of WWII needs careful handling - this was a tremendous opportunity to tell a careful and subtle story but it quickly degenerated into at the usual lazy US WWII myth. Lots of errors - a London blitz in 1943, not an escort in the sky, a lot of FW190s get shot down, despite it being a combined operation the RAF only appear in pubs / conferences where they're shown as arrogant morons - apart from fruity WAAFs who are all well jolly nice and fall for the dashing yanks, US airmen chatting away together in cafes while on the run etc etc etc

Ironically the RAF nasties in the pub in ep 2 were proved right - the US daylight unescorted bombing campaign of 1943 was a disaster, it was an absolutely heroic disaster, but a disaster nonetheless.

Couldn't agree more, and I too loved Rome and thought Dunkirk was excellent

Just started Shogun - enjoyed it so far, and yes AFAIK it's a remake of the Clavell book (I remember all the bookshop posters etc from the late 70s for it). Incidentally he was a British Army POW in Japan

I liked Dunkirk but it was a little confusing... mainly because a couple those guys looked just alike... lol

I’m binging Young Sheldon. New episode comes this Thursday!

While I was a big fan (NPI) of the BBT, I never watched YS. But seeing some clips on Reels, I am slowly working my way through the series and it's really good.

Wonder if they will follow through with the rumored spin-off with Missy.

Thank you.

Ah, it is in the Apple TV section, which is why I hadn't remembered where I had laid eyes on it.

Must take a look through the thread, and hopefully, perhaps, @Huntn, or someone else can add it to the master thread in the 'community section'.

I have gone back to Lucifer on Netflix. The whole idea of God and the Devil always intrigued me despite not being religious and Lucifer is an unusual take on the whole thing. Started from the beginning again and on series four now.
