My wife and I just finished watching The Bear. Sooooo good. Of course now we're itching to treat ourselves to a little fine dining in NYC.
The Korean moviemakers are producing great works, not necessarily in manga and anime shows, but in love, sci-fi, fantasy, and other dramas. My wife and I seldom watch any shows produced in the US, Europe, and Australia, except for a very few. It seems that in every show there has to be a great portion of explicit or crude and even violent sex. Korean shows could be violent, but most times such things are implied instead of acted. My wife would not watch anything that is excessively violent, nor crude nudity, but we are older now. Maybe we prefer more quality works? After a dry spell anime-wise, just started a couple of weeks ago an anime "Solo Levelling" which is based on a manwha (Korean manga) of the same name. Fairly typical action (shonen or whatever the Korean version is) but well-executed - starts slow but builds up as the protagonist uncovers his power. Even though a Korean title, a Japanese studio made it and the soundtrack is provided by the Japanese composer Hiroyuki Sawano who worked on Attack on Titan. Opening song is done with a Korean boy group "Tomorrow X Together" (no really).

1st season for me and interest is waning...We finished Why Women Kill...
Starting Joe Pickett and Elementary
My wife loves The Blacklist, and Monk tooIve slogged through 9 seasons of The Blacklist so far. Im starting the final 10th season .
As a series, The Blacklist was pretty good... it had some slow spots and got sideways a time or two... but loved James Spader in it...My wife loves The Blacklist, and Monk too
Oh yes, I mean Squid Game really took the world by storm and there are a lot of quality Korean series and films coming out now, I think I will check out the ones you mentioned here. The Korean moviemakers are producing great works, not necessarily in manga and anime shows, but in love, sci-fi, fantasy, and other dramas. Anyway, I enjoy anime like the one you mention above, some which are shown at Netflix and "viki.com," while my wife is watching two Korean shows (dramas): Netflix- Captivating The King, and in "viki.com", the last episode of, The Red Sleeve.
😀 It is the same for me about Monk (I don't like it very much), but my wife loves the Monk series. We also like sci-fi, and enjoyed all the seasons of Fringe, and to a lesser degree a Korean show in Netflix titled, Sisyphus. There was an excellent Korean drama at Netflix that I enjoyed because of the special effects. It was about a person who created a virtual reality game, and because of a glitch in the program the virtual and reality would become one, with deadly results. This show is titled, Memories Of The Alhambra. It ends well enough, but with a somewhat cliffhanger. My wife did not watch this show since she isn't into games, nor anime, like I am into. I've tried to watch Monk several times, and just can't do it... strangely, I do like Tony Shaloub... he was great in Taxi and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.
You mean Violet Evergarden? That is a good Anime. I liked it.😀 It is the same for me about Monk (I don't like it very much), but my wife loves the Monk series. Nice and sweet or clean anime that I enjoyed at Netflix:
My happy marriage
Kuroko's basketball
Violet Evergreen
Forest Of Piano (piano music, and a poor kid who ended up being the strongest player/competitor)
Love Death + Robots (this is some "crazy" show that my wife would not like, but I found it interesting)
Netflix has a large number of real good Korean shows, and so "viki.com"
I am with you about the Monk series
Opps! You are correct about Violet Evergarden. You mean Violet Evergarden? That is a good Anime. I liked it.
Re-subbed to Apple to watch it. Have been looking forward to it for a while.Has anyone any thoughts on Masters of the Air?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.Re-subbed to Apple to watch it. Have been looking forward to it for a while.
However, to my mind it's a real curates egg. A lot of it is good but the bad bits colour the whole thing - overall a disappointment. I've got halfway through ep 6 and am probably going to give up on it. I really enjoyed the in-plane preparation scenes, the take offs etc. The air stuff was a real mix, some good some felt like a computer game.
In what way was there "a heavy handed spin put on it all"?While it followed the 100ths campaign as it was, I thought (and your YMMV with this) that unlike say, Band of Brothers there was a heavy handed spin put on it all.
Just from the show's trailer I felt like it looked really cheesy as well... I'm sure the book is much better.Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
What are "the bad bits"?

I have read the book Masters of the Air (whereas I didn't read Band of Brothers until after I had watched the series), but have yet to see the TV series.
Couldn't agree more, and I too loved Rome and thought Dunkirk was excellentHmmm I have been disenchanted with historical dramas especially WWII as of late. Too much lazy use of special effects, too much myth-making as well. Exceptions like the film Dunkirk really stand out. There are other very good historical dramas - Rome at the top of the list - and some other look intriguing. The new series on Disney plus - Shogun - looks interesting and I believe it might be based on the famous novel like the 1970s series. We'll see.
I liked Dunkirk but it was a little confusing... mainly because a couple those guys looked just alike... lolHmmm I have been disenchanted with historical dramas especially WWII as of late. I’m binging Young Sheldon. New episode comes this Thursday!
Has anyone any thoughts on Masters of the Air?

Masters of the Air
Masters of the Air: Premieres January 26th. I'm very much looking forward to this series and hope they do it right. My Dad was a B17 pilot (96th bomb group) in the Mighty 8th. He was stationed at Snetterton Heath working with the Royal Air Force. He was also his squadron's commander &...forums.macrumors.com
