but that goes for all idevices. this also completely vexes me too. why cant we have a simple, fuss-free method of file transfer, even if there's no proper file system in place? (ie, something like usb). and no the Pro is around files will be even bigger.

personally, i'm going to make most of icloud and dropbox.
I thought this was the biggest problem... Then I found sandisk xpand.... A flash drive for iPhone and iPad...
Now file managing is much faster and simple....
I have to give a try... Maybe an iPad pro is, two generation from now, a good substitute for a MacBook....

An iPhone 6s has the same calculation capacity of a MacBook retina ( so core m)
iPad pro has the double of the power of an iPhone 6s
So the same power of an Intel i3? I'm arguing right?

I repeat two generation from now and the iPad pro and the MacBook will merge themselves
Tim Cook in the past said no toaster refrigerators and now we have a toaster refrigerator
This is not jobs' Apple

I won't buy one for personal use unless we start seeming some IDEs being built for it (from the likes of JetBrains and such). Useless for me as a business device unless I can program on it. Once I see Xcode, JetBrains IDEs and text editors with plugin support, I'll buy one and use it more than my MacBook most likely.

I'll only be buying one on release date though for my mother and that's it. Over time the majority of the stuff she gets up to can be done with an equivalent iPad app... the nice +1 is that she finds iOS easier to use than OS X anyway so she'll get right on with the Office apps on iPad Pro. Sure I'll be trying it out and I'm sure I'll love media consumption on something that big but personally I can't justify the 'Pro' moniker without the device being able to do the work I get up to. If we're going on what the A9 could do on our 6s' along with 4GB RAM on the Pro I don't see why we can't get some desktop-class apps being built for the iPad Pro. Ok, maybe not 3D modeling applications, just fully fledged text editors and professional apps that don't fall under the category of 'artist/animator/3dguy' -- I think y'all get what kind of apps I mean. Another thing I'm praying for is that we don't get dumbed down versions of apps being labeled as 'Lite' editions, that'll be utter rubbish (i.e, text editors that can't run HTML/JS files in real time for web development and so on). Hopefully once the ball gets rolling we'll see more desktop-class apps on the Pro. If we can get all of this I'd happily keep my MBP on the back burner and reserve it for other uses.

Who am I kidding, everything I listed above probably won't happen until the Pro 2 or 3 anyway. I'll stick to my MacBook Pro for now.

Very excited for the future of this product!

Yes but the wireless version has an app for iPad to search and move files... Give a look on wd website if you don't know yet
I know that an external sub drive isn't made for iPad, but this particular wireless one has a battery and can connect to both iPhone and Mac

Good points here. The iPad pro has a lot of promise and interesting stuff in it. But for having the Pro moniker attached to it there are some shortcomings. Just not quite there yet. I realize it's a first gen product but they should have thought more of this stuff through, IMO. For what it(iPad pro) would cost all decked out, the MacBooks in various favors are much better values and simply have more horsepower and options. Can't escape that.

Folks are saying the "Pro" term suggests the iPad Pro should run OS X, and have a file management system, drive ports, expansion slots, etc. I'm not sure myself anymore. I was of the mindset that the Pro moniker was relative to other iPads, rather than to Macs, and that it was made to do what other iPads do, only "bigger and better".

Did Apple simply fail to manage expectations when they termed it "Pro" and said it has desktop-class performance? Does that imply that it should be an alternative to desktops today or in the future? Or does it simply imply that it's now the elite device in the iPad family (and will never be anything other than an "iPad" at the end of day)?

Edit: I removed a question that could imply that people who voted "Business" in the poll did so based solely on the term "Pro".

Would most of the votes on this poll have been for "Business (and a bit of pleasure)" if Apple had actually named the device as something less "Pro", like "iPad Maxi"? These are actually good thoughts on the meaning of the "Pro" term in the name, but I think the term has become somewhat diluted over the years. Many years ago now, I used a spreadsheet called "Quattro Pro" that was no more (nor less) 'professional' than any other spreadsheet, and to my knowledge, they never offered a lesser version just called "Quattro." I think the "Pro" term generally means, "the same as before, only more so." I offer the "Macbook" and the "Macbook Pro" as examples. Compared to the Macbook, the Macbook Pro is bigger, has more storage and a faster CPU and lots more ports. But they run the same software and share a lot of use cases.

For me, the iPad Pro will replace an aging iPad 2, and the use case that attracts me most is the ability to use the Apple Pencil to take real notes without feeling like I'm wearing boxing gloves while doing it (I never found a stylus for the iPad 2 that I really liked). I'm hoping I can use it as a searchable, indexible engineering notebook - but also listen to a little music and watch a movie once in a while in my off hours.

I wonder, though, why they didn't name it "iPad+" rather than "iPad Pro." The iPhone 6+ is a bigger iPhone just as the iPad Pro is a bigger iPad, but maybe by including 'Pro' in the name they wanted to call attention to the new features (Pencil support and accessory connection). But: would a putative iPad Air iteration that included these features be called the iPad Air Pro? I doubt it...

Good point. I hadn't thought of that!

Yes by your argument the iPhone 6+ is the exact phone as the iPhone 6 with a larger screen, same specs. the + makes sense there.

The iPad Pro is not at all the same as the iPad Air 2, 4 gigs of memory, different resolution, the A9X plus the extra peripherals...so i think that Pro is the appropriate title. It is a PRO version of the iPad. Its not just a larger copy of the Air at all. You know what i mean?

Sure do - and I don't disagree.

On the other hand, all of these enhancements are bound to propagate to the iPad Air (certainly the A9X, probably the RAM and additional peripherals). For now, the Pro has qualitative advantages over other members of the iPad family. In a few months, it's likely that the Pro will differ only in size.

For me, the ability to make finely detailed drawings on the Pro justifies its moniker, but I do expect that feature to drift down to smaller iPads in the coming months.

Why not use cloud based storage, or that just too slow? I guess it depends on the size of the files, but for all smaller documents, dropbox or onedrive might be enough?

My wife is a Personal Trainer and the iPad Pro is perfect. It'll allow her to get digital signatures from clients, track and write notes, plan her day, take photos, play music, collate documents for clients, send invoices, take payments etc etc It's much better than her having an open laptop. It's like a clipboard on steroids. And for under £1K it'll be no problem financially as it will earn her much much more in saved time and energy.

Unless I missed something she could do all of that with a current iPad model... Right? No real need for the pro version. It's a larger screen but she might appreciate the smaller, more portable chassis of the standard sized iPad. :)

So you've never used one, but know they suck
I am not going to get into an argument, I've been tech specialist that has used Windows and have been reparing windows based computers since 2004. I don't need to spend $1000 to just have to repair that computer too. That would be a monumental waste of time and money. I think it has a couple cool features that OS X does not, but there hasn't been an iteration of Windows OS that hasn't been riddled with errors, (XP being the least problematic.)
But if Windows is running good for you and anyone else, that's fantastic. I am not trying to, nor will I try to convince you otherwise. You have a right to an opinion mate, so I respect yours and everyone elses. (I was just giving some insight to my relationship using Windows to show I do know a tad of what I'm talking about.) :)

Here in Italy the adsl connection is not very fast in many part of the country...
But you can use it... 4g is pretty fast now

Yeah, but she really hates the tiny keyboards on the iPad. So I am hoping the larger keyboard will be better, so it can act a bit more like a laptop when she is in the office. Also I am hoping the speakers can be very loud and could be used for music and timing sessions etc.

as the consumer we're very lucky and fortunate, even though we moan and grumble.

Apple have enough money and recourses and produce almost every conceivable device and consumerism'ism under the sun.
They ultimately produce something for everyone. From small screen watches, to the iphone, the iphone+, the ipad mini, ipad, ipad pro, macbooks and desktop devises. That's at least 7 screen size items (they're even talking about going smaller - http://tinyurl.com/odwbwru ) ,

.....and all we do is complain :p

Absolutely this is the way this forum reacts to good news. Like a bunch of spoiled kids living in their parents basement, they would complain about the color of the bikini of the supermodel that happened to stop by for directions.
